" What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is, the corrugating of the disks of railroad wheels, in such manner as that they ara rendered elastic and flexible, and are sus ceptible of expansion and contraction, by the yield ing of the corrugated parts, both in diameter and circumference simultaneously." " What 1 claim as my invention, aud desire to secure by letters patent is, the manner herein spt forth of corrugating the disks of railroad wheels, by which they cam oe made stronger and more du rable, with a less amount of material, than any other form of disk Or spoke-wheels, as heretofore made." What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is, the combination of the press with the plus-mill, as above set forth, so that while the clay is being pressed into the mould it shall, at all times, have a free opening into the mill, by which mueh of the danger of bi oaking the parts is obviated. I also claim the curved railway in combination with the movable carriage for for cing in the moulds, so that said carriage shall have its front at the same level at all timies. Lastly, I claim the method of constructing the press so that the side plates do not require to be made with a slot in tnem, by carrying the shaft that connects the press with the segments back, so as to be free to act, as herein specified, without passing below the point the press-plate moves back to." " What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is, the method herein de scribed of connecting the lifter of the valve with, and disconnecting it from? the lifter of the lifting rod, by .means of the drop-slide in combination with the lifting-rod and lifter attached to the valve; the drop-slide being operated duriug the lifting of the valve, substantially as described: aud 1 also claim the method of arresting the downward mo tion of the valve, by the inclined or curved face of the slide that holds and liberates the valve, whe ther it be the slide herein described, or anything analogous or equivalent thereto, as described." Making the culti vator with adjustable sliding wings of a rhomboi dal form in their cross-sections, arranged and ope rating in the manner and for the purpose described. 2d. Extending the rear or wide portions of the double-share back, in the form of two flat curved wings, forming the curved spacer, and to which the sidebars or braces are attached, and upon which the adjustable wings or mould-boards are placed,1u the manner and for the purpose set forth. 3d. " What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is, distilling alcohol and other volatile spirits by causing a current of steam to pass op through a vessel filled with stones, or other substance, as above mentioned, through which the wash or other materials is percolating ; the apparatus therefor being constructed substan tially in the manner described." " What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is the employment of an apparatus for applying the stave to the rotary joint ing wheels, substantially in the manner and for the Eurpose set forth, so that the staves can be easily andled beyond the periphery of the wheels, and thrown accurately into place against them, as above described. " What I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by letters patent is, the manner of arrang ing and combining the weights (M and N) with each other, and with the levers (G G), so as to cause said weights to co-operate h> sustaining the levers, and to cause their joint action when re quired, as set forth." " What 1 claim as my invention, and desire to r-ecure by letters patent is, the before described mode of evaporating and distilling by means of a series of vessels so formed and arranged in a non conducting structure as to transmit the hest aris ing from the vapor or steam of a cetaunon boiler, such as (C) fig. 1, to the under surface or sides of a series of boilers, such as (D) fig. 1, in succes sion, by which the heat which is usually lost is made to produce a repetition of the evaporating operation to the bottom or sides of an extra num ber of boilefs (D), to any degree required, by which a great saving rn the cost of fuel is effected, in the process of evaporation or distillatfen?the steam or vapor being condensed and collected in vessels (E) in the interior of the external non (onducting case (A), as fully set forth in the fore going specification." To Benjamin F. 8b*W>arger, of Mifflintown, Pa., for improvement in making candles. 1 atentea June 5. 44 What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by letters patent is, the manner in which I form the candles, point them, and cut them to a suitable length, at one operation, by means of the cylinder (A), piston (K), wick-tube (fc), moulding tube (/), grooved pulley (D), axles (F& H), con necting-band (r), the cutter-wheel (J), curved-cu ter (a), and conical spiral-cutter (d), combined and operating with each other substantially as herein set forth. 1 also claim the manner of preparing (be tallow or other suitable material lor moulding in a cold state, by cutting it into thin slices, pre vious to placing it in the cylinder (A), for the pur pose of giving equal solidity to the candles, and uniformity of appearance."
