The largest load of melons, and the
largest of the kind we have seen in Law
rence this season, were owned by Edwin
Merwih, Esq., who resides some eleven
miles due west of this city. He will ac
cent our thanks for a Urge one, also for a
"cantelope." Mr. Men wis is one of the
best farmers in Kansas, and has one of the
best cultivated farms in the Territory.
Instead of troubling himself about poli
tic, be devotes his whole time and ener
gy in looking after schools, roads, agricul
tural societies, and the cultivation of his
own soil. Would that we bad ten thou
sand just such farmers as is Mr. M.; then
Kansas would soon "blossom as the rose."

According to the schedule of the Wy
andott Constitution, the 13th Representa
tive and Senatorial district consists of
Morris, Chase and Butler counties, having
two representatives and one Senator. The
14th representative district takes Arrapa
hne on the" West, and Greenwood, Hunter,
Godfrey, Wilson, Dorn and McGee on the
South, with one representative, but
allotment for Senator. Are they to be
disfranchised because they were "doubt
ful?"

death of U. C. S afford, Esq., on motion of
James Christian, Judge Smith was called
to the chair and S. O. Thacher appointed
Secretary.

by appointment, reported the following
resolutions which were unanimously
adopted :

Lawrence Bar, learn with deep regret and
sorrow, of his untimely demise, and that

affliction, and that we hereby tender them
our most sincere condolence in this their

According to the Leavenworth Tines,
lynch law is being secretly administered in
that county by "Regulators." If this is
to be virtually tha mode of administering
justice in Kansas, its system of criminal
jurisprudstrce will need re-modeling, or
the present criminal code will prove use
less.
