He was Rp before 7, breakfasted betöre 8, rode for au hour, dictated correspondence for another hour, and then received callers continwmsly. The president is always very carefully dressed. To-day his manner is c lurteous and even cor toot» and even cordial, but neverthe ]«H somewhat reserved. llo spoke bat little, and seemingly with caution. He is undoubtedly impressing all who come in conlsot with h.tu that he is a man of more force and individuality than he has hitherto had credit tor. Senator Bayard said today that Gen. Arthur is well equipped for his new duties in that he has long been called upon to deal with business men as well as politicians- This afternoon a dele gation of the Union League of New York, headed by Collector Robertson, called upon President Arthur, and ex S ressed their w sbes for the sueocss ot is administrativ, promising their cordial and hearty support. The presi dent returned thanks tor the friendly expressions, sod hoped ho would merit the confideuco of ibo country. A com mittee of the New York stock exchange headed by Vice President Lawrence, informed the president that the same confidence which busiacss men felt in the late présidait was reposed in his ■oleessor. The president, briefly re- turned thanks. Gen. Ilunt-ock also called upon the president and had a half-hour's interview, Secretary Blaine ■pent some time iu conference with the president. Visitors coutinucd to oall until 10 o'clock to night. 1 1 ! -LJ!----- J-U CABINET TENDER THEIR RESIG NATIONS On the 22U, immediately after Prés ident Arthur took the oath of office at Washington, all the members of the cabinet, through Secretary Blaine, 'tendered their resignations to the pres ident The act was accompanied by expressions of the wannest personal regard. The president was given to understand that the members of the cabinet desired only to relieve him of all embarrassment, without regard to past political events. Thu president without formality, said that he did not desire to accept the tendered resigna tions, %nd would esteem it a personal favor if they would continue in charge of their duties. The condition of pub lic business and the sensitiveness of the puklio mind in view of the recent ggpat national bereavement, warranted him in asking this indulgence at their hands. Secretary Blaine assured the president that he could depend upon them to use their best efforts to tran qualise the country and to aid him hi the performance of his duties in the present trying circumstances. Still, it is not regarded as probablu that the cabinet will continue long as now con stituted, the president's action being Interpreted only as a request that the members continue to discharfh their duties until a more suitable time ar rives to consider the subject.— Orego nian. __________ A •MALL BOY B EXPLANATION. It was Sunday evening. Angelica had invited her "best young man" to die evening meal. "Yer oughter seen him," continued the persistent informant, after gaining his breath, and the embarrassed girl's hand was removed; "he had his arm—" "Freddie!" shouted the mother, as in her frantic attempts to reach the hoy's ear she upset the contents of the tea pot in Mr. Lighted's lap, making ' numerous Russian war maps over his ' new lavender pantaloons. Tho late president s physi cians are disposed to treat the criti cism of the autopsy with contempt and fortify their accounts of the autopsy by detailing the minutest particulars. Prominent physicians here agree that the wound was necessarily mortal. The diagnosis of the ease was tully warranted by the 'appearances, and the fact that they kept the patient alive 70 days was a most remarkable triumph of medical skill.
