Woes of a Prospector.
A prospector tells a story ol hard ship

News From the Copper Mines.
Lucian and 11. W. Eaves returned vt
terday from the tninalm mines. Lucian
Eaves had been in chargeof the develop
ill nt work of the Idaho Exploration and
Capper Company during the ahaence of
the superintendent, F. E. Johnessc, for
ten days.
Mr. Eaves rejmrts excellent progress
in their work. Four tunnels are being
run to determine the extent and value of
as many different ore bodies. The devel
opment has so far been very satisfac
tory .
The question to be determined in this
camp is not the permanency of the ledges
but rather the extent or continuation of

cut the mountains for thousands ol feet.

some remarkatde samples of copper ore
from their workings. They exhibited
white quartz highly impregnated with

usual. To the practical miner it renn -
sents high values, and no assayer's cer
tificatc is required to make them known,
Cash Cole also brought out some more of
, that remarkable ore from his claims. A11
unusual amount of free gold occurs in
this ore. Nuggets were exposed in the
quartz and very lieh prospects were ob
tained by Hie use of mortar and pan. If
these deposits aie permanent the Snake
river district will equal the richest camp

street lights under a contract for at least
two years. It was argued that new and
improved lamps would cost a large sum
of money. It was suggested that 20 or
25 lights would he required to meet the
demands. A lower rate would be ac
cepted if an increased number of lights

referred to the Water and Light Com
mittee.
The question of city control of the
water works was brought up. A propo
sition to sell the present plant forj^qooo
was read. This question was referred to
the Water and Light Committee.
Councilman Wilkinson introduced a
resolution instructing the city engineer
to furnish estimates of the cost of con
structing a sewer on East Main street,
and also an estimate 011 the cost of divert
ing a flow of water from Clearwater river
through the slough between Holbrook's
island and the city of sufficient volume
to afford a safe discharge for the city
sewer system into the slough.
An ordnance requiring meal [wddlers
to pay f j a day for license, and the license
to he issued lot not less than thirty days,
was passed.
