Arriving. — J. P. Vollmer is now receiv

Nuisance.—I s there no remedy for the

Growing. —The field of grain sown by J.
Kearney near the baak of Clearwater is
putting forth finely.
In Town. —We notice quite a number of
river men in town this week, also K. W.
White of Camas Prairie.
Broke Away.— -We are informed that
the boom at the Chapman mill gave aw ay
many saw-logs were lost.
Mail.—M uch of the mail matter that
was detaiued by the blockade on the 8th,
9tb an 10th of March, reached here ou
Tuesday night.

Off for Franck Raymond Sour of the
French Hotel, left this week for a visit to
his mother couutry, which he left SOyears
ago. He will be absent about six mouths.
Rain Fall. —Such was the force of the
shower on Monday on Lapwai ('reek and its
tributaries, that in less than one hour the
creek opposite the Garrisou rose nearly
three feet.
To be Represented. —A private letter
from Camas Prairie informs us that Idaho
county will be represented by a full dele
gation at the convention on the 9lb of
April.
Almota made her appearance here on
Monday eve., with about 1 dozen passen
gers and 60 tons of freight. She left again
Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock. We are
indebted to her chief eogiueer for late pa
pers.
Election op Trustees. — Ou Monday

Injury.— Chas. Stroope had his shoulder
very badly injured la t Saturdays by his
horse falling precipitating him upon his
left shoulder.
Personal. —Chas. Frush w;i3 in town on
Thursday, enroute from Mt. Idaho to Walla
Walla. He appears as fresh as when pur
ser on the 6teamer in 1861.
Land Jumping a Shooting.— We learn
that at Daytou on Wednesday, a Mr.
Sparks shot a Mr. Stewart in the leg, ne
cessitating amputation, considerable other
shooting oecured on the occasion, all about
jumping land.
Confirmed.— A telegram from St. Paul
March 22 confirms the report of the Indian
confederation in the North West, among the
Sioux & Blackfeet. The seventh Cavalry
are ordered to hold themselves in readiness
for field service.
Almota arrived at 4 P. M. t Thursday,
with 15 passengers and sixty tcus of freight.

With the freight came the bull wheel aud
pump for the new saw mill.
Human Obstructions.— We have fre
quent complaints made by ladies, of persons
obstructing the side walks in front of some
of the saloons, to the annoyance of pas
sers by. Our people should uever lose
sight of their civility.
Gone to Montana. —Rev. Father Cataldo
has gone to Montana to inspect, the differ
ent missions under his jurisdiction in that
territory. île will te absent three or four
months. Rev. Father Giordon, will officiate
for him during his absence.
To Remain. —The Oregonian say 9 that it
is now the purpose of the government to
have the two companies of troops now at
Mt. Idaho remain there during the Sum
mer. This is as it should be. for which
(he people of that section will be grateful.

Too Late.— A telegram was received ,
by our Auditor on Thursday eve., forbid* *
ding a marriage liceuseto Ibebride whowas
married at the French Hotel, on the 26tb.
Mosquitos.— Some have contended that
the greatest foe, the troops will have to
contend against at the new post on the
Cœur de'Alene Lake, will be the mosquit
os. Hope so,tor they can be conquered
by the last of August, but not without con
siderable blood shed.
Storm.— On Monday eve a severe thunder*
storm visited this vicinity and rontiuued
for several hours. We "learn that some
considerable damage was done to the new
ly graded road up the canon north of
Whites ferry on Snake river. The Mt. Ida
ho stage was delayed several hours by the
Storm.
Entertainment.— Mr. L. Carey the As
tronomer will give an exhibition at the
School House ou Wednesday eve., April 3,
tl which lie will explain the explosion of
the hydrogen cannon aud send up n balloon.
One half the proceeds will be giveu to the
Library Association. Give hit» a bumper.

good bargains and be liberally dealt with,

the public, and pay for publishing the

Movement op Troops. —Two companies
of Infantry will move from the Garrison at
1 Lapwai on Monday next for the new post

Luke. They will he joined by two com
pauies more at Spokane Lower Falls. The
whole wil! be under command of Col.
Merriain, and under his superiDStructiou
will construct the new post.
Good Bargain and Sale. —Lieut. Wilmot
of Camus Prairie started for Puget Souud
with some fine work steers. On arriving
at Lewiston the Mill Company of this place
offered him $50 a head for 22 head. He
accepted the offer and deferred the trip to
the sound. He sold well and they bought
well as no better cuttle have beeu seen
in this section.
Locations. — Messrs Reynold Brothers
have made locations each of a pre-emp
tion and timber claim south of Lewiston,
and near the bead of Red Bird Creek
One of them was in town this week uudsavs
they are well pleased with their sites, hav
ing plenty of water accessible, timber in
cluse proximity, and with comparatively!
small outlay can have a road lo a lauding
on Snake river at, the mouth of Red Bird|
canon. Their soil is excellent.
On a Visit.— Mr. Kirk Patrick who ini
years past was a miner 'At Elk City, but:
who is now of Crane, Hastings & Co., of
San Francisco, Cal., lias been in this sec
tion for a short time past. Siuce iiis ab
sence he bas travelled all through Califor
nia, Nevada, Arizona, and tells us that no
where ou the Pacific Coast are so good in
ducements for settlement and fur the in
vestment of capital in public enterprises,
as are found in Eastern Washington and
Northern Idaho, and that it is the best
wheat country in the known world.
A Trip North. —The junior member of
The Teller paid a visit last week to sever
al places north of Lewiston, embracing,
Moscow, Palouse Bridge, Palonse City and
Colfax and says, be was hospitably enter
lained among the settlers at every point he
made a halt. He speaks in the highest terms
of the character and extent of the improv
tneuts made since his former visit tn 1873.
Moscow, Palouse City and Colfax he found
very thriving towns with the very best of
prospects ahead. The condition of the
roads was such ns to prevent his making

1118 circulation around among the settlers,

as extensive as he had intended when he
started on the trip. He had purposed to
go as far ns Pine Creek, but concluded to
defer till later in the season and then take
another trip. About fifty new names were
added to the list of patrons of The Teller
as the result of his short, visit for which
the publishers return thanks. So soon as
we enlarge we will have more space, to
make mention of special events and notes
of the country with its improvements and
room for correspondents from the different
localities.
