As we neared the top of the
- mountain we met the pure
nir sweeping across the Blue
h Kidge to cool bur heated bod
ies. As we passed through
Blowing Rock we learned' of
.the death of'Dr. Ruroplns
wife. ' '
We reached Saull's Mills at
:3, p. rot, ami took a rest of
Voie hour. As we passed down
Watauga River by way of Ynl
leCrueis, the corn oats and
meadows looked fine. We
spent the niglit with Mrs.
Martha Most on Cove Creek,
the old home plase. She is
t he mother of eleven children
4 boys and seven sir's, tn of
whom are still living. She has
f6 grand children living. and
six dead. She has 7 great-
grand children and 2 dend.
We took dinner with John
McBri'le, who was rutting
wheat, mowing grass, and
watching his swarmiug bees.
Next we landed at N. L
Mast's just in time to escape
, n great rain and hall storm,
where we spent the night.
'Newt has about 39 head of
-cattle, mnles andhog, and a
number of sheep on bis fine
pasture lands.
Next to John Mast's and
-spent the night, He has a
bout 400 acres of good land,
a beautiful home, a good
mill, fruit, grapes and a no
ble wife. Wbut elseronld he
wish to make aim happy?
Aunt flallie. aidow of Jacob
Mast, deceased, who resides
with them, is a kind lady but
ris helpless.
Wednesday at SilVdrstone
we naw Walter Shull. who is
soling goods at that pla?e.
Next to Lee Green's Jand en
joyed another noon-day re
pntr. Dee has a position
with N: L. Mast. Nxt to Hoi
den Davis' and spent the
night. Now Mrs. Ellen Da
vis and Mrs. AddieUlennjoin
ed our visiting party and we
went to Jacob Lewis' for din
ner. Then we spent the
niaht at D. F. Horton's. He
was away on a sheep-buying
expendition.
Friday morning we bade
good by and started for
. home by war of Boone, and
saw many friends there. We
called at Dr. Cottreli's office,
who was once a physician in
our "ounty , but now has a
good practice in Boone.
" Now for Blowing Rock over
the nice turpike road-and
took dinner with Will. Mast,
who-hi aflnestore and a
good trade. Now we wend our
ay through m;sty rain and
land at borne sate and sound.
