Messrs. Richard M. Green and J. Patterson Hodges are now working good squads of hands on the railroad near Boone, and seem to be enjoying it to the full est. Mr, Mulligan, Superintend ent of the construction work on the good roads in Wilkes county, was in town last week in confer ence with our road commission and Mr. Cole State Highway En gineer, who is now at work in the county. Mm. C. C. Farthing and lit tle children, after spending the winter with relatives in Raleigh, have returned to their home near the village. The husband and father, who has been work ing at Baden for some time, will return early in next month. Hon. F. A. Liuney left for Morganton Sunday afternoon, where he will apiear with Attor n;js Spaiuhour& Mull for the Pitts brothers, who will be tried iu Burke Superior Court this we.-k for the killing of Dr. Henes see at Glen Alpin some weeks ngo. Dr. Hodges, of Cranberry, was in town a few hours Tuesday. Mr., Clarence Prevettef the popular wholesale dealer in pro visions feed and produce at West Riverside, was in the vil lage Monday supplying his trade here, and at the same timo look ing around for a suitable site for a wholesale building and resi dence here; as he hopes to be o pen for business by fall. Cline, of Hickorv. who recent ly announced that he would not be a candidate for re-election. This news will be gratifying to Mr. Finley's mauy friends throughout the district and also throughout the state, afc he is popular, as well as broad-mind ed, learned, versed in law nud of fiue judicial temperament. Mr. Finley was a candidate for this place in 1910 and at the Newton and Hickory con ventions received a larger number of votes than any other candidate f r more than 600 ballots, and made close race lor the iudceshin. Since that time the district boun daries have been changed, Cald- ell touuty havinsr been omitted and Yadkin county taken in its place. The district as now con stituted comprises Wilkes, Yad kin, Alexander, Catawba, Wa tauga, Avery and Mitchell coun ties. Captain Jones, one of Mr. Finley's opponents in the 1010 campaign was lrom Caldwell county. Mr. Finley is vice-president of the North Carolina Bar Associa tion, having been elected to that office at the last session of the association which met in Ashe-J yille several months ago. He was formerly president of the local bar association, and is deserved ly popular with the members ofi Al I . . I ... .
