Court continued through Tues day, the time being taken up in continuances, etc., and'eourt ad journed in the afternoon, having been in actual session possibly not more than 12 hours for the term. Judge Carter said that be youd question, the most remark able term of court over which he has ever presided, and added that it was indeed a credit to the good people of Watauga. With the court house in Boone packed to its capacity, on the 25th of March a patrioMc mass ' meeting was held by the citizens i i - Instructive lantern glides show ing the growth of onr flag with an address by D. Linney was the first speaker introduced by the chairman, Capt. E. F. Lovill. Mr. Linney declined to speak out of deference to the large amount of "imported oratory" which was available. Before taking his seat, however. Mr. Linney said "I will now introduce to yon two candidates for Judge. The ono which will get the Watauga vote will come forward and ad dress tne assembly nrst. 1 now present to you Chas. G. Gilreath and T. B. Finley." (cheers by the audience) Gentlemen and Ladies, said Mr. Linney, ''1 introduce to you T. B Finley and Chas. G. Gilreath" (more cheers) "Then Hon. Hay den Burke will address us; if Wilkes fails us, Alexander will come to our aid." Mr. Burke made a rousing ad dress in which he said he was too old and his boys too young for t ie service but that he did not have a single dollar too good to bd sent to the help of the boys at the front. Following this was an address by Hon. W. C. Newland. Mr Newland said in part, "I am not too old for service. At the be ginning of this war I went to Washington and offered my ser vices. One of our senators said he could get me a bomb-proof position in Paris, I refused, say ing I would accept any position, however bumble, on the front. "If we cannot go we may help by buying Liberty Loan Ronds and War Savings Stamps. These make an attractive, safe and sound investment." Capt. Edmund Jones was in troduced by Capt. E. F. The young ladies of tbe dor mitory took their dinner, picnic style, on the campus lastTues day. The art class made a trip to Winkler's crerft Tuesday, taking lunch with them. Rev. Mr. Powell was at tl-e chapel exercise.on Friday and made an interesting talk to the students. Mr. Robert Pulliam, a former Graduate, was at the school on Friday, much to the pleasure of hie many friends. Mr. Fred Cook, a graduate of the school, was with us a few ,dajs ago. Glad to see him Supt. B. B. Dougherty spoke Blowing Rock on last Friday evening at the close of the pub lic school. Mrs. Phillip Greer, mother of Prof. Greer, and his sister. Mr?.
