A few strokes, or a few bad holes lost at the very beginning often causes a man to blow up complete ly. Feeling the loss ho tries to re trieve the holes Immediately; he tries things he can’t do, takes fool ish chances trying to beat par. A few of these fall, he finds himself going from bad to worse, becomes desperate and finally goes all to pieces. Any of us has seen this hap pen time and again and we realized then the mistake the poor victim was making, but we fall to read the lesson to ourselves. Hang on by sane play and pick up a hole here and there as the opponent slips. A good steady concentrated pressure on an opponent will win back holes quickly enough when they start to come. The important thing to be rememlered is the necessity for concentration. If a man would play golf well there Is no room in his thoughts for anything outside. Dated Aug. 30, 1936- 8-30—9-6 HARMAN, PENN, TO STRESS LATERAL PASS THIS YEAR ' Plenty of Hocus Pocus Football, to Be Seen at Franklin Field ..Philadelphia, Aug. 30—A slash ing running attack, with more at tention than ever paid to forward and lateral passing, will feature Pennsylvania's offense this fall, according to Harvey J. Harman, head coach of the Red and Blue. Starting hts fifth seasoi^as head mentor of the team, Harman plans to use the single wing back sys tem with a shift into the trouble wing back when necscaary. Last year Pennsylvania used a modified single wing back with an occa sional line and backfleld shift. Since he started coaching at Pennsylvania In 1931, Harman has been a strong advocate of the lat eral pass. Backfleld candidates were trained to make the back ward pass when ever an op portunity presented Itself. Last spring In practice, more laterals were used than heretofore and Harman Indicated than an even greater number will be used this full. Magicians? Spinners and other hocus pocus that goes with a modern, dlversi I lied attack \yl11 be in greater evi ; dence on Franklin Field, at Prince ton and at Ann Arbor than in re cent seasons. Harman bases his offensive hopes on the fact that he has a more experienced, heavier back flcld than he has had since he started coaching at Pennsylvania. With eighteen backs, the lightest of which welghss 180 pounds and the heaviest, 205 pounds, with an average of around 180 pounds, Harman believes that he has the material for an attack that will be more complicated but more af fective than in the past. Oh the showing of the candi dates In spring practice, the first backfleld may be composed of Francis Murray calling the signals from a left halfback position; Lew Blverson, at the other halfback position; Richard MacWhorter, at the number 2 or blocking hack position land Bill Kurlish, at full back.
