WAVELETS
By BILL FARRINGTON
The Yule tide season will not be
overlooked on tomorrow night, when
Norman Cordon, baritone of the
Metropolitan Opera, presents his
weekly program, Norman Cordon
Sings, over WATR and the Blue
Network, 11:30 to 11:56 p. m„ Cor
don, who also emcees the program,
will be heard In the carol, "Adeste
Fidelia," and Josef 8topak, conduct
ing the Blue Network Concert Or
chestra will play the familiar
“March Of The Toys’’ from Victor
Herbert’s "Babes In Toy land ” Cor
don also will be heard In a hit num
ber from "Bloomer Girl” by Rogers,
“Right As The Rain.”
Marjorie Hess, American soprano,
will be guest artist and sing Victor
Herbert’s ‘‘Thine Alone.” Both art
ists conclude the program with the
duet "Strange Music” from “The
Song Of Norway.”
"The Case of the Peddlers of Pre
judice" Involves 'Mr. District Attor
ney” In a wave of vandalism aimed
at churches, on tonight over NBC
9:30 p. m„ Jerry Devine, author
producer of the series, has based his
script on news stories of youthful
vandals who have desecrated houses
of worship of all sects. Jay Jostyn
plays the D. A. Vicki Vola is heard
as Miss Miller and Len Doyle por
trays Harrington, the D. A.’s assist
ant Investigator.
When she is food she is very,
very food—and whe nshe is bad,
she also gets pai dfor it. That’s
Joan Alexander, who is a sweet
yoonf wife, the lead role in
"Bright Horizon” weekdays over
CBS but who is a dyed-in-the
mike villainess in the “David
Harding — Counterspy” dramas
Monday nights aver WATR and
the Balne chain at 9 p. m.
Dorothy Parker, noted writer and j
wit, Vocalist Kay Lorraine and John !
J. Anthony, the man who answer*
those problems, will keep a watchful
eye cn “The Brain” when they are
guest* of Dunninger, the, "Master
Mentalist” on tonight, at 9 p. m.,
over Station WATR and the Blue
Network. Dunninger repeats his
most bewildering “Brain Buster” by
popular demand of fans who can’t
quite believe such wizardry Is pos
sible. He will allow his guests to
take an unmarked deck of cards and
shuffle them to their hearts' content,
then nail the cards to a board with
a large spike, Dunninger will then
attempt to name the suit and value
of as many cards as the judges de
sire. The cards wil be torn off the
spike in confirmation.
Elisabeth Schumann .noted so
prano, is guest soloist on Columbia’s
"Invlfation to Music” tonight over
WABC-CBS, 11:30 p. m-12:00. Ac
companiment is by the Columbia
Symphony orchestra, Prank Brieff
directing.
Miss Schumann is heard in a
program of songs appropriate to the
Christmas season, including three
lieder by Hugo Wolf. In the first.
"Der heil'ge Joseph singt.” St. Jo
seph comforts Mary on the way to
Eethlehem. with the thought that
their journey is almost ended and
her child will soon be born. The
s3cond. titled "Ach des Knaben
Augen.” tells of the heavenly light
that shines from the eyes of the
Infant Jesus. The third. "Schla
Luides Jesuskind,” is a tender lull
aby for the Infant.
Miss Schumann also sings
"Marienlied.” by Joseph Marx, a
prayer in praise of the Blessed Vir
gin; and Richard Strauss’ "Die heil
’gen drei Koen’ge,” ("The Three
Holy Kings”).
An orchestral number. "The Sleigh
Ride” by Leopold Mozart, the father
of the immortal Wolfgang, completes
the program. It is a short piece,
full of infectious gaiety.
The new “Andrews Sisters
Show,” which starts over the
Elue networw Dec. 31 at 4:30
p. m., e. w. t.. will have a different
opening theme number each week.
Played by Victor Sohoen’s 22-piece
orchestra, the theme of the week
will be an arrangement of one of
me hits made famous by the An
drews Sisters.

sible for the sale of $1,800,000 worth
of E Bonds at Convention Hall.
This, according to Pennsylvania
officials, is a record sale for E
Bonds—the bonds the government
wants to sell more than any other
kind. More than 15,000 E bond pur
chasers attended the rally and
broadcast by George and Grade.
Ken Murray, “Which Is Which”
emcee, introduces Paulette God
dard, the Andrews Sisters, Nigel
Bruce, Basil Rathbone and Hugh
Herbert—or their reasonable fas
simlles—tonight, at 9:30 p. m. over
CBS. Murray will challenge studio
contestants to guess whether the
heard-but-not-seen performers are
the real stars or voice doubles. Fif
ty dollars in war bonds goes to
winners, and five dollars in war
stamps consoles those who guess
wrong.
Music is provided by Richard
Himber’s orchestra.
Chicago nlghtclubbers got an ad
ded treat when Jimmy Durante
descended on the Windy City with
the other Moore-Durante cast
members to help open the Sixth
War Bond Drive. Managers of La
tin Quarter night spots—many of
them lifelong friends — prevailed
on Jimmy to sing some of his fa
mous songs. Durante wound up by
giving five Impromptu performanc
es in as many bistros, all in the
same evening.
A Christmas party lor Harry von
Zells baby gets lost in a battle of
dialects when the Russian, Bert
“Boris Tsoris' Gordon, and Emily
“Moitle Kipp differ in opinions on
“artistically decorating the tree”
during the "Eddie Cantor Show”
tonight at 9:00 p. m., over the NBC
network.
The situation becomes complete
ly hopeless when Eddie, in an at
tempt to have peace, is accused
of "not minding his own business.”
The day is saved by a clever bit of
diplomatic adjustment from Eddie
Cantor Von Zell, Jr.
Nora Martin and Eddie sing a
Christmas specialty. Leonard Sues
and his trumpet handle the musical
scores and Harry Von Zell an
nounces. The program originates
from the NBC studios in Hollywood.
As previously announced, Edward
N. Scheiberling, National Com
mander of the American Legion,
will be heard on the program in a
special cut-in from New York.
Lovely Harriet, Hilliard, shown
here, leads a triple life. She co
stars on radio with her husband,
Ozzie Nelson, Sundays over CBS,
as well as starring in films and
overseeing a large home and two
small sons.
Wednesday’s “Gag-of-the-Day”
It was a thrilling story that an
nouncer Don Wilson was telling
after a rehearsal of the Jack Ben
ny show. "There I was In that lake,”
said Wilson, "and I’d given up
all hope. As I sank for the third
time, my life seemed to rise before
me in a series of grim realistic pic
tures.”
Murmurs of sympathy came from
the lips of his listeners. But just as
Wilscn was preparing to resume.
Jack Benny interrupted him hopeful
ly. "Say, Don,” said Jack, "did you
happen to notice a picture of me
lending you a ten spot in the Au
tumn of ’42?"
His ability to imitate animals al
most ruined Gilbert Mack’s career as
a serious actor. Mack, who'll be feat
ured on "Grand Central Station”,
Saturday, December 23, at 1 p. m.,
EWT., over CBS, was so good at
making barking dogs, etc., sound
like the McCoy, directors kept ignor
ing his other talents. Mack turned
to the theater in desperation and
scored solidly in "A Bell For Adano,”
now playing to capacity audiences
on Broadway. He’s pretty happy
about his part—lots of lines to read
and not an animal noise in the en
tire play!
Jerry plays a convincing enough
Santa Claus to trap a department
store Santa with a murderous past
on NBC’s "Mr. and Mrs. North" 8:00
p. m., when "The North Slay Santa.”
Christmas, always a rugged sea
son with Pam around, assumes new
overtones of confusion when Pam’s
demon niece, Susan, picks that time
to pay an unwelcome visit and with
ghoulish glee dogs the North in their
sleuthing.
Alice Frost and Joseph Curtin
play the title characters under di
rection of John W. Loveton. Charles
Paul composes and conducts the
musical score.
Look What Santy’s Bringing
Santa Clans has the Andrews Sisters, world’s foremost singing trio, in
the bag—for radio listeners beginning New Year’s Eve. Starting Dec. 31
at 4:30 p. m., over the Bine network the noted harmonists will be
heard with a famous guest star, no less than Bing Crosby on the niitlal
broadcast. George “Gabby” Hayes, screen comic, and Vic Schoen’s
orchestra will also be featured with the girls and their famous guests.
