WAVELETS By BILL FARRINGTON Elmer, the low-pressure salesman of the A1 Pearce Show, wins a radio in a local newspaper contest, but goes haywire over the wireless when he finds that he can’t pay trans portation expenses, on Saturday, March 31, at 10:15 p. m., over CBS, stations. To raise money, he becomes a baby-attendant and photographer. In the latter Job, he takes pictures of animals at the zoo. The only thing that develops is trouble, and Elmer is faced with the problem of a most embarrassing situation! Danny Kaye plays the part of Russian producer, Donnovltch Kay off, and auditions guest Prank Si natra for a leading operatic role, on Columbia's “Danny Kaye Show" Saturday, March <31, 8:00-8:30 p. m. Kaye also will recount in his in imitable style, all the things that have happened to him during his stay in New York. The winner or winners of a coveted Metropolitan Oper contract and a cash award of $1,000 will be announced on the “Metropolitan Opera Presents" Sunday, April 1, at 5:30 p. m. over Station WATR, in the final broadcast of the program from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House. The winners, who will be heard as soloists on the pro gram, will be chosen from the seven outstahding young singers who have reached the finals of the contest. The finalists are: Pierrette Alarie, coloratura soprano of Montreal, Canada; Biruta Ramoska, lyric so-, prano of Hartford, Conn.; Barbara Troxell, soprano, of Nazareth, Pa.; Elizabeth Bollinger, soprano, oi Lewiston, Idaho; Robert Merrill, baritone, of New York, N. Y.; Joseph Laderoute, tenor, of Sault St. Marie, Ontario; and Thomas Hayward, tenor, of Kansas City, Mo. The Andrews Sisters Show will range literally from the sublime to the ridiculous, in its Easter broad cast over Station WATR, Sunday, April 1, at 4:30 p. m. Serious high light of the program will be the singing of “The Lord’s Prayer” by the St. Brendan’s 20-voice boys’ choir, directed by Bob Mitchell. On the ridiculous side, the show will present Donald Duck (Clarence Nash) and Clara Cluck (Florence Gill) in a chicken opera. The An drews Sisters sing “Blue Skies” and “Red River Valley” and Patty’s solo is "My Heart Sings.” The Riders of the Purple Sage harmonize “Easter Sunday on the Prairie,” and join with the Andrews Sisters in "How Deep Is the Ocean.” Gabby Hayes and Dewey "Alamo'’ Markham help out in the comedy department, and Vic Schoen conducts the orchestra. Riley heads for a hatful of heart ache when he and his friend, Gillie, decide to surprise their respective wives with new easter bonnets, on “The Life of Riley” comedy-drama, starring William Bendix, Sunday, April 1, at 10 p. m., over Station WATR. Riley spots a hat he likes in a tailor’s window but he finds that it's not for sale. After makifig a deal to rent the hat for a few days, he discovers that it belongs to Mrs. Gillis, who left it at the shop to be renovated. Trouble soon ensues, and Riley has to talk through his hat to save himself. It’s no April Pool’s joke when Jim Lawton and his secretary, Gloria, ’’Hollywood Mystery Time” sleuths, go to a seashore resort and uncover a mystery murder, ’’The Case of the Floating Feather,” on Sunday, April 1. at 9:15 p. m., over Station WATR. Invited to a beach party by a hostess who has a feeling of impending tragedy, they find that two girl guests, jealous of each other over a man, had argued shortly before the death of one of them. Jim and Gloria start tracking down clues, but all they can find is a feather floating on the surf. The feather, though, is enough to point to the killer’s identity, and an exciting' chase ends the investigation. Carle ton Young and Gloria Blondell co star in the thriller. Sir Gerald Campbell, British Min- 1 ister in Washington and special as sistant to the British Ambassador ) in the United States, will be the 1 guest speaker on the Opera Vic tory Rally over WATR and the BLUE Network at 3:35 p. m., today, during the Metropolitan Opera broadcast of ’’II Trovatore”. His talk, another in the series on “The Fight For Peace,” is entitled ‘The Future of the English Speaking Peoples.” Participants during the Opera Forum Quiz at 4:17 p. m., will in clude Olin Downes, quizmaster, Sig mund Spaeth, Robert Bagar, and Boris Goldovsky.
