COKONEJT TO INVESTIGATE DEATH OF WOMAN WhUe stepping onto a truck owned by Salvatore Savalia on Town Hill, at New London, Wednesday evening', Mrs. Albina Dona-tello. of Station , Warer ford, was knocked from the running board of the truck, and suffered a- de compression of the skull, from which she died at the Lawrence Memorial hos pital at 10.20. The truck auto whjch the woman was mounting was struck by a trolley car operated by Benni Doyle, and the impact of the two heavy vehi clea caused the woman to lose her footing and hold r.l topple off the runffing' board of the truck, striking the oack of her head on the pavement , The woman was taken to the hospi tal, wnere sne was admlttexj at 7 n. m. and an operation was undertaken, but she died three hours later. Medical Ex aminer H. H. Heyer was notified and communicated wita Coroner J. J. Pes- mond of Norwich, Tstho ordered at) in vestigation at oce. According to information fathered from a person living in the vicintty of the aeoMent, the truck wag turned com pletely around when struck by the trol ley car. It was learned that Mrs. Don. atello was headed down town to do some shopping and had been offered a ride by the owner of the truck. The truek man had just delivered a piano in the neighborhood and was knewn to Mrs. Donatello as he had prevjondy deliv ered a piano at the home of Mrs. Dona- tello's mother. Whiba, 23 Starr street, New London, on Wednesday evening, a robber started to ransack bureau drawers in one of the bedrooms, and to ao doing accidentally discharged a shot gun and then, frigtu ened, turned and fled. The -shot from the gun pierced the bureau drawer, rip ped a sjeam In the leg of the bureau and entered tha, floor. A gold watch and $235 in cash in the bureau were left behind by the robber. A few hears later the robber returned to the house but fell over some object 1n the rear entry. When pursued by Sergeant Pat rick Murphy and Patrolman John Cav- anaagh who were then In the house, the robber or robers scaled the had; fence and disappeared. PARCEL POST TAX ' GOES OFF JANUARY 1ST The internal revenue stamp tax on parcel post mailed on and after Jan uary 1 will be abolished. .This is in ac cordance with the revenue act of. 1881, approved Nov. 23, 1921 repealing such a tax. Postmasters have also beep instructed to withdraw from sale all proprietary stamps at the close of business Decem ber 31 and retain them until instructions are received to send them to the de partment for redemption. The taxes on proprietary medicinal and toilet prepar ations was also repealed in the revenue act of 1921. Postmasters are instructed aot to re deem unused proprietary stamps from the public. The holders of unused stamps who request redemption will be advised to apply to the commissioner of internal revenue, treasury department, hi Washington. Desmond en Thursday opened a. formal hearing on the case of the automobile accident which resulted in the death, of Edgar T. Howard, son of Police Sergeant and Mrs. Frank T.
