PACIFIC COAST X.EGHOBXS WIN COSTEST AT STORKS : Hollywood Farm's pen of White Leg horns from Hollywood, Wash., won the eleventh annual egg lawlng contest conducted-: by the Connecticut Agricultural 'college : at Storrs. The final score of the pennant pen was 2,215 eggs or an average-of more than 221 eggs for each pullet In the pen. Unlike the win ners in some contests this pen lagged behind for a - large part of the year, but steady,- laying' in the fall months and a strong spurt during the last three weeks put this pen under the wire a winner by forty-eight eggs. Hollywood Farm finished In second place a year ago and in' fourth place two years ago. Dur ing the last three years,-their three pens, consisting of thirty birds, have laid, 6. 552 eggs, or an average of 213 eggs per hen, ah enviable record for cohsisttently good laying. There was a total of 100 hens entered in the contest.- They came front, fourteen states, England and one. province in Canada. They laid a g?and total of 162.87 eggs, the second highest annual lay in eleven years. The following table, shows the number of birds in each, of the principal classes, the average individual egg yield for the year and the general average for all va aritles that took part m the contest: the contest : Her production of 301 eggs in the 62 weeks makes her the second best hen" ever trap-nested at Storrs and during the last ten years 'over 10.000 hens , from Canada, England and thirty different states have tried to reach this pinnacle of hen fame. Th6 second best hen in the contest was White Wyandotte No. 264 -from Tottington, England, with a mark of 277 eggs. In the White Leg horn erronb' hen No. 672 in the winning pen was high with a score of 276 eggs. In the Rhode island Red class .hen No. 599 from Southboro, Mass., was at the top with 250 eggs.
