ia mechanics heretofore believed unat
tainable, to wit: That a machine could
he made which would be able to sustain
its own weight from ono eml of its cx
trdnie pcini, at right angles with the
point on which it revolves, so as wholly
to overcome the immense gravity of its
position. The "farmer" describes this
singular piece of mechanism as followa:
The machine consists of a leaden
wheel, of about live inches in diameter,
having a brass rim, and secured to a
small shaft of a similar length through
its cinter, to enable it to revolve on its
axis, with a rim of five and a half inobes
in diameter. This rim has a projection
on each end, af about half an inch be
yond its outer edge, on a line with the
axis of the wheel. On each projection
there is an indentation sufficient to rest
siring first applied.
