Yesterday was a great day at the Fair grounds, and Scott county never showed itself off to better advantage, all thini:* considered, than on this occasion. Not only the stock, and other articles on exhibition were of the most excellent character, but the concourse of people, the interest taken in the matter, and the excitement generally, was much ahead of anything ever before witnessed at any previous Fair of this county—much more creditable than we even dared hope a few days ago. We will not now make mention of what might have been done that was not done, to heighten the interest of the occasion, but speak of what was done on the grounds—what we saw, and the condition thereof, not forget ting to make honorable mention of those who competed with Buccess, and those who were not so fortunate in their aims at pre cedence. At an early hour the grounds commenced filling rapidly with people from all parts of the county, who were intent upon seeing what was being doue at that place. The old folks—the pioneers of the eountry, went to observe the progress which had been made in their day and generation the sturdy farmers to compete for prizes in the various departments of Agriculture and Stock raising the housewives to show the work of their hands the boys to see sights, and the young ladies—some to compete for prizes for their specimens of needlework others of our fair friends to compete in show ing off their graces to catch prizes of a dif ferent character. We trust all were satis fied with what they saw, and what they obtained at that place. We were highly pleased with all we saw, and could s^e no reason why others should not be. There were some three or four thousand persons on the ground at S o'clock, when the crowd commenced dispersing. At 2 o'clock the Committees commenced awarding premiums on those ai tides which had not been previoUfly examined. The Independent Brass Band was on the ground and treated the assembled thousands to most excellent music. At one o'cloek was the grand display of the entire stock on the ground, which passed around on the trotting course foftjipwards of a half hoar, and we must sa]T thai we have never seen a batter seta'ton la lay plaaa than aa thk teea4oA.
