LE CLAIKE ITEMS.—The A German named Arnold living on the Ueserve, called in at the resi dence of Mr. Mackintosh, near his own house, thi« (Wednesday) morning for the purpose of inquiring about some reports he had heard. An affray occurred between them, in which Arnold was stabbed, by some means or other. There are two or three versions of that affair, and we await farther development#. Thie (Wednesday) evening, another affray took place. John Coscram, better known as "Rig John," and some others, were congre gated at the store of Mr. C. McCabe, en gaged in conversation. John and McCal« had some difficulty, when the latter re quested the former to leave his store. John refused to go go, and attempted to seize the poker, which McCabe, however, managed to get hold of first, and struck John two or three blows on the head, inflicting some severe, though we learn not fatal, wounds. IT Our cotemporary of the zette, Ga boiled over yesterday in several pla ces—and we don't blame^him fmuch either, but rather glory in his spunk. It was rather small business for the Packet Company, and should not be countenanced. Of the Agent who conferred the patronage upon a coteui porary, our cotemporary says: If he has not done this on his own sug gestion, ho should be kicked from the place he disgraces, and we fliall endeavor to see the boot-toe applied to his oor carcass, af ter we learn his name and peiiigree. The man to whose carcass our friend and fellow sufferer wishes so apply his boot is a young gentleman who bears the name of Sanders, and usually holds forth at Bur rows it Prettymun's Forwarding and Com mission House. We intend to try our hand at the same game the next time we aeet him, provided he will agree to use no .nur derous weapons other than those which grew on his body. We shall be happy al so to attend our brother cotemporary in his descent upon this fellow, and shall u«e cur best endeavors to have the threat car carried out in a decent, gentlemanly and impreisive manner—satisfactory alike to him who applies the boot and to him to whom the boot is applied. Of young Sanders' pedigree we have no particular information. We have met him frequently and shall probably meet him once more—if not more. He has sandy hair and 'whiskers—including the "sorrel top rather good looking fond of practical jokes and wears a "turn down" collar. The Miscelaneous Appropriation Bill was taken up. The House concurred in the Senates amendments ineluding that appropriation *-ll:i,ooii fur the payment of the Florida volunteers by I majority. Amendment extending the operation of the Treasury Note law was read, rejected, ayes V2 nays Mr. Marshall of Ky., moved to reconsider the vote and lay that motion on tah'e lost hy a inaj. of 'J. The amendment increasing appropriations for the California mails via Panama and Tehauntepec were rejected. Tiie House then took up the Senate's res olution asking for Committee on Conference in relation to Post OtHce appropriation bill. Finally House concurred in the reso lution of Senate for conference, and House took recess until 9 o'clock. After the recess it was nearly 10 o'clock, be'ore a quorum of members were present, and several efforts were made to take up privae bills, a resolution was passed, al lowing $ti,oo for mileage and per dieiu to liird U. SENATE.—The miscellaneous appropriation bill was passed with Mr. Simmon's amend ment for a home situation, but including sections authorizing the re-issue of Treasury notes, abolishing he franking privilege and raising rate of postage. A message was here received from the the PresideLt appealing to Congress to pre serve the country. This, he said, is the last day of Concress am) there is no appropria tion yet to pay the outstanding Treasury notes. He continues, irom it formation sub mitted to the Secretary of the Treasury it is manifest the present, receipts will ecareely meet the ordinary ixpensesof governtner.t by the end of the fiscal year. Nearly $18, Otmi, imio will be due with a considerable amount paid for duties at the various ports and no means to meet them, thus the Amer ican people will be dishonored. It is impos sible to avoid this catastrophy unless pro vision be made agiinst it within the few re maining liou s of the present Congress. Committee of Conference being appoint ed, the Senate went into executive session at 3 A. M. The doors of Senate Chamber were re-opened ard Senators re-assembled. Mr. Seward said that as the Senate was now awaiting the action of the House, he would move a recess be taken. Objection was made and Senate took a short, recess.
