was brought before Justice McKown yester
day morning, on a charge of entering the
house of (ieorge II. French, corner 6th and
Kipley streets, and stealing therefrom a
pocket book, Ou the examination it ap
pear* that Mr. French was awakened yes
terday morning about two o'clock, by hear
ing some person moving in bis room. He
(•prang from his bed and came in contact
with the burglar, who was on liis hands
and knees, making free with whatever he
could iimi in Mr. F's pockets Mr. French
caught the rascal and administered several
soothing arguments, which had theetlect of
making him br like a dog, for mercy. (ii|

sharp lookout for them.

by the Sheffield Coal Company, as we are
advised, to niue cents on the levee in Rock
Inland. The Coal Companies of whom Mr,
Cable bought his supplies made him conces
sions which enabled him to sell at

Hock and Coal Drilling Mnehine, recently
perfected, by our fellow citizen, I* White,
who is the sole inventer. We had hearJ it
favorably spoken of before, but when we
came to examine it and see it operate, it
sopke fur itself, and we believe it will prove

count of the discrimination made by the
government of the Chicago A Rock I-dand
Railroad in favor of the trans|ortation of
the Sheffield coal, Mr. Cable hap cut Hf all
his supplies from the Carbon Cliff, Henry
county, and Deene's mine.4, and is now get
ting his entire supplies from Coal Valley

has removed his yard from the coruer of
Brady and 5th streets, to the lot owned by
Mr. LeClaire on the levee east of Burrows

ing, etc., was identified as being the arti
cles in question. The examination was not
concluded when we left the court-room
last evening.
