Vladivostok
Fleet of five battleships and two cruisers
bombard Russia's Siberian seaport.
No response is made.

Vladivoetock, March 8 ? This place was bombarded by live battleships and two cruis
ers of the Japanese fleet today. The firing was all done at long range, about five and a
half miles. But little damage was done. Many of the Japanese shells failed to explode.
The Russian forts did not return the fire. The attack was apparently made f<Sr the pur
pose of ascertaining the location of the forts, also to see if the Russian fleet was in tLe
harbor of Yladivostock.
ATTACK DN VLADIVOSTOK CONFIRMED

St. Petersburg, March 8 ? Admiral Alexielf has telegraphed to the czar from Mul:-.
den as follows: "Supplementing my previous telegram, I beg to say that five out of sev
en of the enemy's ships opened fire on forts Suvaroff anc Lunutch, on the towns and on
roadstead and along the valley of the river Obyarnoniyn. No losses on the batteries cr
tlie fortifications. "
RUSSIA SEEKS CHINA'S AID IK MANCHURIA

New York, March K? ' The New V >rk Herald London correspondent says: "It is
reported here that Russia is prying China to make all the territory west of the Lio-ho
river neutral. Japan remains apparently calm in spite of Russia's efforts because she has
made the reservation thar should Russia be allowed to obtain this advantage Japan will
take any portion of the Chinese territory which is stragetically necessary for her opera
tions against Russia aud Russian arms.
