Claim to have blocked mouth of harbor and that no damage was done to the navy. [Special Dispatch to Daily Alaskan.] London, March 2ti ? Baron Hayashi, Japanese minister, this morning received an official dispatch from Tokio stating that Admiral Togo, commanding the Japanese squad ron at Port-Arthnr, reports an attack arranged and carried out on the night of March 21. < >11 that date a torpedo boat destroyer fleet divided into two divisions, under cover of the battleship's guns, and succeeded in placing numerous mechanical mines at thejentrance of Port Arthur harbor, completely closing it. Thi?T; Occupied most of the night. In the morning l>oth divisions retired. Then the battlet^ips Fugi and Gasliima tried a long range bombardment on the inner harbor. The Russian fleet consisted of five battleships, four cruisers and ten destroyers. These commenced manouveriug, under protection of the fort's guns, inviting the Japanese to a cloce range engagement, which was not accept ed. Desultory bombardment npon the Japanese position began. Many shells fell near the Fugi and the Gasliima, holding the foremost positions of the Japanese fleet, but no. damage was done. The Japanese fleet retired in good order on theafternoon of March 22. 1 RUSSIA ADDS TO COLOSSAL ARMY [Special Dispatch to the Daily Alaskan.] St. Petersburg, March 26 The Czar is determined to create another army corps to consist of 280 infantry re iments. Adolphus C. i Fasel, formerly a wall paper and paint dealer and heavy property owner of Skagway, died at Fairbanks in the Ta nana March 22 of hemorrage of the stomach. He was hurried there yester by the Arctic Brotherhood. This news was received today by a special dispatch to the Dawson News, and is corrobo rated by private telegrams. The dis patches also say that Mrs. Fasel is at Fairbanks and will stay. Fasel left Dawson for Fairbanks last year.
