The streets which intersect the city lengthwise are used oy the people generally and their improvement add to the value of all the property in the city, while work done on the avenues is chiefly beneficial to those owning abutting property. It would be wise t? apply the princi ple not only to sidewalk improvement, but. to work on the streets as well. There is a law which will permit property owners to improve the cross streets and sidewalks and to compel each lot to bear its fair share of the burden. Aside from the amount neces sary to make these streets passable, it would probably be well to cause those desiring them improved to in voke the law io question, at least until Broadway, State, Main anil Alaska streets shall have been put in first -class condition. The little Guide has so far forgotten the vigorous kick it received from Councilmen Van Cleve and Wolland that it has again resumed its habit of barking and snarling at the procession, which, as it moves always onward in its progress toward better things, occa sionally passes its narrow kennel. ...US ... .? ...
