There will be general regret because
of the early departure of C. L. An
drews, deputy collector of customs,
from Skagwav. Mr. Andrews has been
one of the most popular and efficient
official* in the north. For more than
five years he has been at the head of
the United Stales customs force in this
city, and during that time there has
not been a breath of scandal connected
with it. In addition to being a'popular
official, Mr. Andrews has been a good
citizen af Skagwav, always taking a
lively interest in everything that
counts for the city's progress and the
general well fare.
One would think from the attention
the divorce question is attracting at
the present time that the legal separa
tion was the rule rather than the ex
ception with married people, but such
is not the fact. Statistics show that
less than one per cent, of those married,
in the Cnited ^States resort to the di
vorce courts. The figures, to be exact,
show that three couples in every thous
and that get married in the United
States get divorced at some time dur
ing their married life. These figures
are based upon the record of 1HOO. It is
bad enough, it is true, but not so bad as
many are lead to believe.
The '"Stroller column," which for
years has bet n a popular feature with
which ever Dawson paper E J. White
was connected with for the time, will
be introduced on the Whitehorse Star,
of which paper Mr. White is now the
editor. The inovation cannot fail to
add to the popularity of the paper.
The peace officers of Skagwav will
get all the assistance required from the
citizens in their efforts to prevent the
location of a gang of crooks in thi > city.
There is no room in Skagway for
criminals. ?

Grouse Are Protected By
Game L.w
With th? opening: ot spring, the blue
grouse have begun hooting on the hills
in the neighborhood of Skagwav, and
this has raised the question as to whe
ther or not these favorite game birds
can be killed without violating the law.
Under the Alaska game law grouse
are Included among the game birds that
are protected during the closed season,
and that will continue until August 15.
The penalty for violating the game
law is the confiscation of the gun or
other impliment used for the killing of
the game, the confiscation of the game

my kidneys were in some way upset,
probably weakened from the contrac

loins or perhaps excited from overexer

was aching I asked Mrs. Gilson to go to
the drug store one day for Doan's Kid

Up to date there has not beenasym
