The crossing of the Yalu river by the Japanese forces did not impress the Russians in view of the ensuing Japanese reverse. A crossing was effected at Aasien, and the reports received are that the Russians, fighting from entrench ments. on the Manchurian shore, and by sallies with field guns inflicted terrific loss upon Japanese. The field guns were used with effect upon the Japanese while crossing the river. The pontoon bridge and boats were destroyed, percipitating a great number of Japanese in the river where they were drowned. The Russian fire was very effective. BALTIC FLEET SAILS SOON St. Petersburg, April 28 ? A report that the Baltic sea fleet is to leave Libua today for the far east is incorrect. The admiralty is giving consideration to all questions con nected with the despatch of the fleet, and all idea of following thejnorthern route has been abandoned. The battleships and torpedo boats will pass through the Suez canal. The admiralty entertains no fears regarding the restrictions to be imposed by the canal regula tions. The matter has been well gone over, and all possible interruptions looked into. The fleet is to leave soon and the imminence of the important movement is what doubtless gave rise to the report that it would sail today. REPORTED THAT GEN-SEN WAS BOMBARDED St. Petersburg, April 28 ? The report is current that the city of Gen-sen, Korea, has been bombarded by the Russians.
