Whitehorse, May 6? The ice has
moved out of the Yukon at Kagle,
Stewart ami Selkirk. It still holds
fast at IXiwson and is unchanged at
Selwyn and Ogilvie.
The ice moved out at Kagle last
night at 6 o'clock.
At Stewart the ice broke up and
went out at " p. ru , but at 8 it was
jammed agam. The river opened up
with a crash at Selkirk last night and
the ice went down stream only to
form a jam a qu irter of a mile be!ow
that place a few minutes later.
The big jam that has hold .'or some
time two miles below Yukon Crossing
went down stream four miles at (i p. ra.
yesterday. The river is open from
Five Fingers to 15 miles below that
place.
The jam at Ogilvie still holds fast. [
The river fell three inches since last !
night there.

Rumors in circulation at St. Petersburg
say the Japanese have been forced
back from Kin Lien Cheng" after los
ing 10,000 men

London, May 6 ? A dispatch from St. Petersburg says: Iiumor current there that
a second battle has been fought at Kin Lien Cheng in which the Russians lost 9,000 men
and the Japanese 10,000. It resulted in the Japanese being driven back in great disorder.
The dispatch adds that there is no confirmation obtainable.
RUSSIA SAID TO HAVE WON BATTLE
St. Petersburg, May 6. ? Rumors here which cannot be traced to a responsible
source, are to the effect that the Russian troops in northeastern Korea swooped down up
on the Japanese below the Yalu river, wining a victory from them.
NAVAL BATTLE OFF GEN SAN
Ixmdon, May 6. ? A dispatch from Seoul says:
"Heavy cannonading was heard off Gensan on the east coast of Korea Monday and
this morning. It is supposed that Rear Admiral Urius' fleet has succeeded in engaging
the Russian Vladivostock squadron.
TOGO AGAIN AFTER PORT ARTHUR
St. Petersburg, May 6. ? An unconfirmed report says Admiral Togo has again at
tacked Port Arthur. The fighting began at daylight and is still in progress.
SQUADRONS REPORTED FIGHTING OFF VLADIVOSTOCK
Paris, M?y 0 ? A rumor to the efFect that the Japanese have succeeded in bringing
the Russian Vladivostock squadron of four cruisers to battle off Vladivostock was circula
ted in Paris yesterday. No confirmation has been received.
REPORTS OF FIGHTING CONFIRMED
Paris. May 0 ? A Dispatch from St. Petersburg confirms the previous reports to the
effect that the Japanese fleet reappeared off Port Arthur yesterday and that an engage
ment occurred off Gensan between the Japanese squadron and the Russian Vladivostock
squadron. There has been no news of the results of the fighting.
