H Royal, the Xorthweet Light A lYiwrr O m panv and Char 1m H. Nye last nUrht against the city council's action in granting permission to C. K. Wynn Johnaon, manager of the Skagway Itay Aaooiation, to place a fence across Third, Fourth and Fifth avenues about 50 feet east of Spring street. Judge WUcoxen appeared before the city ooun eil aa attorney for the ptvtestants. The persons and company named claim to hare a right to crow the mill site and propose to fight those who object to their exercise of such right. The city oouocil had firen it* consent that the fenoe should be put up in the place ob jected to in order to prevent its erec tion down Spring street, which would destroy the ball grounds. The council referred the matter to the city attor ney- | The school board was allowed *l\V> by the oouocil with which to pay for calci mining (ire of the rooms in the school building and the premium on insur ance. F. B. Wursbachor, chairman of the school board, was present and asked for the money. He stated that the contract for the calcimining had been awarded to D. J. Rich for HIS. Chairman Britt of the committee on health and polioe reported that many property owners along the Jitch that is running through the town from near about Twentieth to Sixth avenues, which had been condemned as a men ace to health, had been notified to re pair the same. Some of them hare oom plied and the others would be not - fled by the city attorney to comply with the order to repair the ditch or the work would be done and charged against the property. The committee on water works rec ommended thai water be extended to the school building. It asked for more time oo the proposition to extend the same to the brewery. The extension to the school house was estimated at ?2&V exclusive of a hydrant ami pi pine of the building. The ?omplethw of the work was authorised by the oouncil. The oommittee was also authorized to secure 1000 feet of four-inch pipe. The report of H. B. be Fevre for the ?even days of the present month before he retired as mucicipal magistrate, was 81ed.
