HOW tiOOII FARMERS SAVE MONET. They take good papers and read them. They do not leave their impliments scat | tered over the farm, exposed to snow, rain and heat. They repair tlw ir tools and buildings at a proper time : and do not suffer a subse ! quent threefold expenditure of time and ! money. They use their money judiciously, i ami they do not attend auction sales to | purchase all kinds of trumpery because it I is cheap. They sec that their fences are well re paired, and that their cattle are not graz ing in the meadows, or grain fields, or orchards. They do not refuse to make correct ex periments in a small way of many new things. They plant their fruit trees well, care for them, and of course make good crops. They practice economy by giving their stock good shelter during the winter; also good food, taking all that is unsound, half rotten or mouldy out. . 1 They do not keep tribes of eats, or I snarling dogs around the premises who ! eat more in a month than they are wortli 1 in a whole life time. Lastly, they read the advertisements, know what is going on, and frequently save money by it. Suecesslul farming is made by attention to little tilings. The farmer who does his best, earns hi- money with best apprecia tion, and tt-es it with best results. Such men are the salt of the earth. ’ The !>< -t -oil for most flowers, and es pecially for voting ]>lants and lor seed beds, i< a mellow loam, containing so much sand that it will not "bake" after hard showers. If we have not such a soil, we must, of course, use the best we have. A stiff clay soil can lie much improved by a little sand, or ashe and manure, and by pretty con stant working. It must not, however, be handled too wet. Always drain the flower garden so that no water w ill lie on or near the surface. Don't try to grow good flow ers in a poor soil. Always have a little pile ni manure in some outer corner. It is a- convenient as money in the purse. Those v. ho keep a cow or horse will of course, have manure enough; but those who have no such opportunity can get a : load of sods from some meadow or the side ! of the road; lay them in a pile to rot, and give them a soaking with soapsuds on washing-days. When the leaves fall, get | all you can handily and throw them on 1 the pile, and no one will lie able to boast 1 of better flower food; in fact, this is the j very poetry of manure. j ARNO,'HODGKINS & C0.7 MAM'FACTURKB8 OF Organs & SVSelodeons, J One door north Cook’s Deco Store, (up stairs,) Water St., Gardiner, Me. rpilKIK f.tst ? arc made of solid black Walnut 1 throughout; their keys are made of the finest grade? o!
