The Kidneys are two in number, situated at the upper part of the loin, surrounded by fat, and con sisting of three parts, viz: the Anterior, the Interi or, and the Exterior. The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of tissues or veins, which serve as a deposit for the urine and convey it to the exterior. The exterior is a con ductor also, terminating in a single tube, and called the Ureter. The ureters are connected w ith the bladder. The bladder is compof-ed of various coverings or tissues, divided into parts, viz: the Upper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Mucous. The upper expels, the lower retains. Many have a desire to urinate without the ability) others urinate without the ability to retain. This frequently occurs in children. To < ure these affections, w e must bring into ac tion the muscles, which are engaged in their vari ous functions. If they are neglected, Gravel or Dropsy may ensue. I lie reader muse also i»e mane aware, inai wihj- | ever slight may be the attack, it is sure to affect the ! bodily health and mental powers, as mtr flesh and blood are supported from these sources. Got t. ok llhEl'MATiSM—Pain occurring in the j loins is indicative of the above diseases. They oc cur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky concretions. The Gkavel.—The gravel ensues from neglect or improper treatment of the kidneys. These or gans being weak, tin* water is not expelled from the bladder, but allowed to remain; it become.-fever ish, and sediment forms. It is from this deposit that the stone is formed, and gravel ensues. Dkopsy is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears different names, according to the parts affected, viz: when generally diffused over the body, it is called Anasarca; when of the abdomen, Ascites; when of the chest, Hydrotho rax. Tkeatmest.—Helmbold’s highly concentrated compound Extract Buchu is decidedly one of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, and gouty affections. I Aider this head w e have arranged I>ysuria, or difficulty and pain in passing water, j Scanty secretion, or'small and frequent discharges of water; straugurv, or stopping of water; Heiua- j tuna, or bloody urine; Gout and Kheumati>in of i the kidneys, without any change in quantity, but 1 increase in color, or dark water. It was always highly recommended by the late Dr.Phvhiek. ini these affections. This medicine increases the power of digestion.! and excites the absorbents into healthy exercise bv w hich the watery or calcareous depositions, and all unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and in- 1 llammation, are reduced, and it is taken by men, j women, and children. Directions for use and diet accompany. Philadelphia, Penn., Feb. 25,1%‘7. II. T. II elm hold, Druggist—Dear Sik: 1 have ] been a sufferer for upwards of twenty years w ith ; gravel, bladder and kidney affections, auring which 1 time 1 have used various'medicinal preparations, and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians, experiencing but little relief. Having Been your preparations extensively ad vertised, 1 consulted my family phvsican in regard to using your Extract Buchu. I did this because I bail used all kinds of adver tised remedies and had found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact, I despaired of ever getting well, and determined to use no remedies hereafter unless I knew of the. ingredients. It was this that prompted nie to use your remedy. As you advertised that it was composed of buchu, cubebs and juniper berries, it occurred to me and my phys ician as an excellent combination ; and with his ad vice, alter an examination of the article and con sulting again with the druggist, I concluded to try It. 1 commenced to use it about eight months ago, i at which time I was confined to my room. From the first bottle I was astonished at the ben eficial effect, and alter using it three weeks was able to walk out. 1 felt much like writing to you a full statement of my case at the time, but thought my improvement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to defer, and see it it w ould effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would he ot greater value to you and more satisfactory t<> me. 1 am now able'to report that a cure is effected, alter using the remedy for five months. I have not used any now for three months, and feel as well in all respects as I ever did. Your Buchu being devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and invigoratorof the system, 1 do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may require its use in such affections. M. New York, August 15th, 1808. Allow me to call your attention to my PREPAR ATION OF COMPOUND EXTRACT BUCIIU The component parts are BUCTIU, Long Leaf, CUBEBS, JUMPER BERRIES. Mode of Preparation.—Buchu, in vacuo. Juniper Berries, fry distillation, to form a tine gin. Cubebs extracted by displacment w ith spirits ob tained from Juniper Berries; very little sugar is used, and a small proportion of spirit. It is more palatable than any now in use. Buchu, as prepared by Druggists, is of a dark color. It is a plant that emits its fragrance; the j action of a flame destroys this (its active principle), leaving a dark and glutinous decoction. Mine is | the color of ingredient**. The Buchu in my prepar ation predominates; the smallest quantity of the other ingredients are added, to prevent fermenta tion; upon inspection, it w ill be found not to be a Tincture, as made in I’harmacop<ca, nor is it a syrup—and therefore can be used in cases where fever or inflammation exists. In this, you have the knowledge of the ingredients and the mode of pre paration. Hoping that you will favor it with a trial, and that Upon inspection it w ill meet with your appro bation. With a feeling of confidence, I am, very respectfully, II. T. HELMBOLD. Chemist and Druggist of 19 Years’ Experience.
