Jlailjr |uiutfkf journal. For the Journal. THE CITY OF BEST. IT KL81E VAN®. We will not walk adown its pleasant way With trembling and in fear, For no unwelcome visitor, they say, Hath ever entered here. No guest but that a quiet house hath met. That he may call his own, And many dwell therein, they say, and yet Each one doth dwell alone. In its still streets no tread of busy feet, No heat of horses’ hoofs, But all day long the sun.-hiue warm and street Doth shine u|>on the roofs. Its guests do dwell apart, and never may Behold each other’s fare. All walk in silence down the narrow way, That leads unto this place. Inside the city’s walls none ever feel Hunger or want again. And that fair tree, whose leaves their wounds do heal. Doth overshadow them. Peasant and prince do enter the same way, The king dothjeavc his crown Outside the gate, and then* each one doth lay His heavy burden down. Beyond the city’s portals one may see, Upon the farther side. The land that God hath named Eternity, A conntry fair and wide. Once, long ago. the path that doth lead thither Was shrouded in deep gl«>om, And not a bud did grow but that did wither Before the time to bloom. Upon the farther side the gates were fast. And men walked there in fear, And baneful herb- did ever grow and cast Their shadows far and near. Then One w'th crown of thorn? aud cross of blood Sundered the gates apart. And watered the whole laud, a crystal flood Poured from Iiu wounded heart. Ah! then a light did bur?4 from out the gloom. A radienc« unto d. And all the barren land did bud and bloom. The Kidnev* are two in uuniber. situated at the upper part of the loin, surrounded by fat. and con sisting of three part*, viz : the Anterior, the Interi or, and the Exterior. The anterior absorbs. Interior consists of tissues or veins, which serve as a deposit for the urine and convey it to the exterior. The exterior is a con ductor also, terminating in a single tube, and called the Treter. The ureters are connected with the bladder. • The bladder is composed of various coverings or tissues, divided into parts, viz: the Tpper, the Lower, the Nervous, and the Mucous. The upper expels, the lower retains. Many have a desire to urinate without the ability: others urinate without the ability to retain. This frequently occurs in children. To cure these affections, we must bring into ac tion the muscles, which are engaged in their vari ous functions. If they are neglected, Gravel or Dropsy may ensue. The reader must also be made aware, that who ever slight may be the attack, it is sure to affect the bodilv health and mental powers, as our flesh ami blood are supported from these sources. Goi'T, ok UhEUMATlSM.—Pain occurring in the loins i* indicative of the above diseases. They oc cur in persons disposed to acid stomach and chalky concretions. Thk Gravel.—-The gravel ensues from neglect or improper treatment of the kidneys. These or gans being w eak, the w ater is not expelled from the bladder, but allowed to remain; it becomes fever ish, and sediment forms. It is from this deposit Li .it the stone is formed, and gravel ensues. Dropsy Is a collection of water in some parts of the body, and bears diflerent names, according to the parts affected, viz: when generally diffused over the body, it is called Anasarca; when of the abdomen, Ascites; when of the cheat, Ilydrotho- j rax. /Treatment.—Ilelmbold’s highly concentrated compound Extract lluchu if decidedly one of the best remedies for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, gravel, dropsical swellings, rheumatism, and gouty affections. Tnder this head we have arranged hysuria. or difficulty and pain in passing water, Scanty Secretion, or small and frequent discharges of water; strangury, or stopping of water; Hema turia, or bloody urine; Gout and Rheumatism of the kidneys, without any change in quantity, but increase in color, or dark water. It w as always highly recommended by the late Dr. Physick, in these affections. Tills medicine increases the power of digestion, and excites the absorbents into healthy exercise by which the watery or calcareous depositions, and all unnatural enlargements, as well as pain and In flammation, are reduced, and it is taken by men, women, and children. Direction* for use and diet accompany. Philadelphia, Penn., Feb. 25,1867. H.T. Helmboi.i>. Druggist—Dkau Sir: I have been a sufferer for upwards of twenty years w ith gravel, bladder and kidney affections, during w hich time 1 have used various medicinal preparations, and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians, experiencing but little relief. Having seen your preparations extensively ad vertised. I consulted my family physical! in regard lo using your Extract lluchu. I did this because I had used n'l kinds of adver tised remedies and hud found them worthless, und some quite injurious; in fact. 1 despaired of ever getting well, and determined to use no remedies hereafter unless 1 knew of the ingredient*. It was this that prompted me to use your remedy. As you advertised that it was composed of buchu, cubebs and juniper berries, it occurred to me and my phys ician as an excellent combination; and with his ad vice, after an examination of the article and con sulting again with the druggist, I concluded to try it. I commenced to use it about eight mouth* ugo, at which tune 1 was confined to my room. From the first bottle 1 was astonished at the ben eficial effect, and after using it three weeks was able to walk out. I felt much like writing to you a lull statement of my case at the time, but thought 'my improvement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to defer, and see it it would effect a perfect cure know ing then it would he ol greater value to you and more satisfactory to me. I am now able to report that a cure is effected, allcr using the remedy for live months. I have not used any now for three months, and I eel as well in all respects as I ever did. Your lluchu lH‘ing devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tome and in vigorutor of the system, 1 do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may require its use in Miuh affection*. M. New York, August 15th, 1808. Allow me to call your attention to my PREPAR ATION OF COMPOUND EXTRACT BUCHU. The component parts are BUCHU, Long Leaf, CUBEBS, JUNIPER BERRIES. Mode of Preparation.—Buchu, in vacuo. Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a line gin. Cubebs extracted by displacement with spirits ob-. tained from ^Juniper Berries; very little sugar is j used, and a small proportion of spirit. It is more palatable than any now In use. Buchu, as prepared by Druggists, is of a dark color. It is a plant that emits its fragrance; the action of aflame destroys this (its active principle), leaving a dark and glutinous decoction. Mine is the color ot Ingredients. The Buchu in my prepar ation predominates; the smallest quantity of the other ingredients are added, to prevent fermenta tion; upon inspection, it will be found not to be a Tincture, as made in Phannacopcea, nor is it a Syrup—and therefore can \>e used in cases where fever or inflammation exists. In this, you have the knowledge of the ingredients and the mode of pre paration. Hoping that you will favor it with a trial, and that upon inspection it will meet with your appro bation.
