$ai(|r Jttiwffer fmtntaL D.URYMEX’8 COJiVEXTIOX. At the annual gathering of the dairy men of Vermont, recently held, Mr. II. A. Williard, dairy editor of the Rural New Yorker, delivered an excellent address. lie commenced, by speaking of the small beginning of many great enterpises. The manufacture of cheese and butter though begun on a small scale had attain-; cd to^a great magnitude, and is destined to increase more in the iuture than in the past. By comparing the making ol but ter and cheese with the raising ot heel he said that it would take a good lour year old steer to make 1(XM lbs. of beef, 3steers at this rate would viekl 3000 lbs; this would make 12 years’ growth. A good j cow would make 4.10 His. of cheese per year, and when 12 years of age she will have made (deducting the first two years) 4500 lbs. One lb. of cheese is equal to two of beef as an article of food, so that the cow would lie far more profitable than the steers. When eggs are worth 30 cts. per dozen we can afford to pay 20 cts. per quart for milk. Beef at 36 cts. is worth no more than milk at 24 cts. per quart. At 12 cts. per quart, milk is the cheapest animal food to use. There are now 1500 cheese factories in N. Y., while the first one was only started a few years ago by Jesse Williams. He gave some statistics showing the great increase in the manu facture of this article in this country, and he urged the importance of its becoming a more general article of food. In speaking of the great tide of emi gration from New England, he thought one of the principal reasons for it was a misdirection of the use of our soil. The West raise corn cheaper than we can ; and wool can be produced for less in Califor nia, South America or Australia. But our land being best adapted to dairy keeping, we could pursue this branch of farming much more successfully, than any other. The best dairy country lies between the 40th and 46tli degrees ot latitude. High undulating soil, well watered with fre quent showers, are among the essential characteristics to be sought for in making butter and cheese, flood stock farms he said are not always good dairy farms, but good dairy farms are good stock farms. He spoke'of the Orange county (N. Y.) butter; and of the association which they formed for the purpose of selling the pro ducts of their dairies, and he urged all farmers to adopt a similar method. Con densed milk was referred to and was thought to be a profitable business for dairymen. He described the process of preparing it with its cost, and the profit realized from it. One great fault of farmers is he thought, that they attend to too many things at a time. By keeping a strict account of the expense and receipts of every crop we can tell which is the most profitable, and then we ought to make that a speciality. It does not pay to raise or manufacture a poor article of any kind, as it costs as much as the best. If we are in the dairy business, we should get the best cows, and keep them the best we can; and make from them the best butter and cheese. EQUALIZER —OR— DB* G. Tt N0EGBG83t —AND— J-. Xu. The experiments were made while engaged in the DRUG business in the city of Philadelphia, nineteen years ago. prompted by the alarming increase of diseases of tlie Bladder, Kid | neys, Gravel and Urinary Organs, existi. g in both sexes. These diseases wi re Justly attracting as much attention as diseases of the Liver, or any other vital organs of the body. Upon the sound and healthy condition of these Important organs, the healthy aud harmonious action of the nervous sys tem and Liver, and consequently the happiness of ! the entire human family, depends. That Buchu should act upon both Liver and Kidneys, to pre pare it so that it would retain its strength and active principle, was his aim. It must not be made, as housekeepers make tea, by boiling. It is a delicate Leaf, and its active principle would be destroyed by such a process. It must be prepared in VACUO, and from the Long-lqaf, iresh and carefully se lected. THE SUPERIORITY' OF MY MODE OF PRE PARATION BEING ACKNOWLEDGED, I now ship even to the point (CAPE OF GOOD HOPE), where the leaves are gathered, large quantities of MV FLUID EXTRACT. IN FACT, THE ARTIC LE STANDS PKE EMI NENT, AND is KNOWN IN ALL TARTS OF THE WORLD. The first and most important object was to offer to the afilicted a remedy that was perfectly safe, and could be taken by adults and children. Igno rant persons, who pay no attention to dose, direc tion, or advice, might reason, “That if a teaspoon tub taken occasionally, did good, two would do belter, and perhaps a bottle would cure In a day.’’ Many have broken down their health by dissipa tion.and on his principle; but they had been years in doing so. What 1 would have understood is, Hint no injury can arise from its use. It is as sate as any article of food; but patients must not expect any medicine to rebuild a wrecked or shattered constitution in a This truth is so self-evident that it would seem unnecessary to repeat it, were it not for the fact that thousands of persons who are intelligent in all other matters, seem to think unreasonably, that a cura tive agent must exhibit its specific effects immedi ately, when the fact is, that time is often an impor tant element in the progress of a safe and thorough cure, even when the medicine is working the best results. These same persons would expend HUN DltKDS, yes, THOUSANDS of DOLLAKS, iu articles of LUXURY' and DISSIPATION, and think • less of it than they would of FIFTY DOLLARS in medicine to rebuild a BROKEN DOWN and WORN OUT CONSTITUTION. Notwithstanding the number of years I have been engaged iu business, there may be those located at j a distance that may not be aware of uli the facts, i and would like to be satisfied on all the points. THANKS TO MIS. IIELMISOLD. Girard, Pa., March 31,18<i#. Editor Cosmopolite I desire, as an unsolici ted tribute to the merits of IIki.mbold’8 BOOIir, and lor the benefit of those similarly nfllic.ted as myself, to say that after consulting many eminent physicians and trying nearly all the best advertised remedies, in the vain hope of finding relief from aggravated kidney and bladder diseases, from which 1 have suffered excessively for many years, good fortune finally suggested to me Hklmbold’8 BIT HU, which I commenced using with little faith, and no apparent beneficial effects for alx^ut a month. At the expiration of that time, however, I thought 1 commenced to experience slight relief, which encouraged me to persevere in its use, and now at the expiration of four months, although I am an infirm old man, nearly seventy-eight years of age, and consequently medicines cannot be ex pected to favorably affect me as they otherwise would, I have found such unspeakable reliel and permanent benefit from Mr. Ilelmbold’s valuable discovery, that I feel I ought to publicly record the fact, as an acknowledgment to him. and a valuable suggestion to the public. I1ei.mi;oi.i>—Peak Sir: In regard to the question asked me as to my opinion about Bu chu, 1 would say I have used and sold the article in various forms for the past thirty years. I do not Hunk there is any form or preparation of it I have not Used, or known to be used, in the various diseases where such medical patent would be indicated. You are aware, as well as myself, that it has beeu extensively employed in the various diseases of the bladder and kidneys, and the reputation it has ac quired, in my judgment, is warranted bv the facts. 1 have seen aud used, an before stated, every form of Buchu—the powdered leaves, tincture fluid ex tracts—-aud 1 am not cognizant of any preparation ol that plant at all equal to yours. Twelve years* experience ought. 1 think, to give me the right to judge of its merits, and. without prejudice or par tiality, 1 give you precedence over aiJ others. 1 value your Buchu lor its effect on patients. 1 have cured with it, and seen cured with it, more diseases of the bladder and kidneys than 1 have ever seen cured with any other buchu or any other proprietary compound of whatever name. T. 1Ii:lmboli>, Druggist—Dear Sir: I have been a sufferer for upwards of twenty years with gravel. bladder and kidney affections, during which time 1 have used various medicinal preparations and been under the treatment of the most eminent physicians, experiencing but little relief. Having seen your preparations extensively ad vertised. I consulted my family physican in regard to using your Extract Huchu. 1 did this because 1 had used a’l kinds of adver tised remedies and had found them worthless, and some quite injurious; in fact, 1 despaired of ever getting well, and determined to use no remedies hereafter unless 1 knew of the ingredients. It was this that prompted me to use your remedy. As you advertised that it was composed of buenu, cubebs and juniper berries, it occurred to me and my phys ician as an excellentp'oinbination; and with his ad vice, alter an examination of the article and con sulting again with the druggist, 1 concluded tv try it. I commenced to use it about eight months ago, at which time 1 was con lined to my room. From the tirst bottle i was astonished at the ben eficial effect, and alter using it three weeks was able to walk out. I felt much like writing to you a full statement of my case at the time, but thought my improvement might only be temporary, and therefore concluded to defer, and see it it would effect a perfect cure, knowing then it would be oi greater value to you and more satisfactory to me. 1 am now able to report that a core is effected, niter using the remedy for live months. J have not used any now for three mouths, and leel as well in all respects as 1 ever did. Your Ituchu being devoid of any unpleasant taste and odor, a nice tonic and in vigorator of the system, I do not mean to be without it whenever occasion may require its use in such affections. M.
