New Tork City 225 f t BELFAST Tlie big event of the summer social season, the annual caberet at the Northport Country Club is over and like its predecessors of the past four jcars was an unqualified success. More than 200 guests, including a large number of Belfast members and their guests partook of a most de licious banquet, served under the di rection of the club caterer. Mrs. Hose Fahv of Belfast, many believing it to be the finest banquet ever served at the annual cabaret. Owing to the large patronage it was necessary to hold the banquet in Bavside theatre which was taxed to its limit. Dii'g tables were laid, and wooden mallets and other instruments with which to make a noise were provided and the i afters rang with the racket. The banquet over, Ira M. Cobe. chairman of the house committee and the prime mover of the caberet. whose original ity is responsible for the many unique features which have been provided from year to year, acted as master of ceremonies and after tell ing a few pertinent stories he called upon Ralph L. Flanders to tell what is being done with the golf course. He was followed by Hugh Dean Mc Lellan of Belfast and Boston, who proposed a lising cole of thanks for Air. Cobe which was enthusiastically given. Mrs. Richard E. Stevens was the hit of the evening in original songs composed by her husband who presided at the piano, and for which Air. Cobe wrote the words. The songs had original loial applications bitting president Charles Bradbury. Ralph H. Howes. Joseph \V. Blais dc-11, Fred T. Chase, and Ralph R. Flanders and others and were an in stant hit. Airs. Stevens was never in better voice and her dramatic work combined with her splendid voice called forth enthusiastic applause. She was accompanied by the Beauty Chorus, a bevy of charming summer girls l-ater in the 'evening she re peated her hit of last year's cabaret. The Chicken .Song, which was most original. Alts. S. A. Parker of Bel last. always a favorite, read three original poems on golf, written by Air. Cobe which were very pleasing and humorous. A moving picture, a satire on the Sunday blue laws was amusing and l'ari, a Boston magician entertained for an hour with tricks and witticisms. The last feature of the program was the tilting contest, something entirely new to the great er part of the audience ar.d was very interesting. Long tilting poles and small stools about two feet high were provided and the contestants selected from the guests were Dr. Ansel M. Lothrop. C. B. Roberts. Hugh Dean AlcLellan. C. O. Dickey. Ralph L. Flanders, R. H. Howes, Richard E. Stevens and Leo Rosenfeld. The first two in the eliminations were Lothrop and Roberts, the former winning two out of three; next came AlcLellan and Dickey, the former winning; Flanders defeated Howes, and Ros tnfeld defeated Stevens. In the semi-finals Lothrop defeated BIcLel lan. Handers Rosenfeld. which left Lothrop and Flanders £or the fin als. It was an exciting moment and the audience applauded every play, Lothrop finally winning after a hot combat in which both men showed no little skill. The victor was roundly applauded. Following1 the cabaret there was dancing until midnight at the club house for which AIcKeen furnished music. UNITY Mr*.
