Viele & C., whole-al grocers in fin'.-- city, left for K-otncky cn a c.J'eetinz tour, not long .since, and tivcled in a sulky. He wrs expected h tne to-e-av. About cine o'clock last night Ir. Bus; was met on the lower river road, near Edmund's Grove, by Mr. Chris. Wuaderlich and Cap'ain Fi'zwilliams, who were on their way down in the bayou on business. The officers were absent until about eleven o'clock, and on their return found a party of gentle men going down the river road look ing fir Mr. Bust. II is horse had been stopped at the Marine Hospital, and had only the sulky shafts and seat with him. The wheels were found near the coal mines. At half-past one o'clock this morning Mr. Bust had not been found, and it i3 feared that he has been waylaid and probably murdered, as it is very likely that ho had a large sum of money with him. A book was found on the fiilky seat, marked "Win. 11. Bust," and con tained a lot of hiils, hut there wa no money in i' There arc two theories in repaid, to the matter: The horse might-have run away, threw Mr. Rust out, and badly injured him; or he might have been robbed, and possibly killed, and the horse started off by the murderer. At the late hour of the night the af fair was discovered, it was rather dif ficult to ascertain the facts, and at the time at which we write, we can only act on supposition. We sincerely hope our fears may be groundless, but it is thought that something terrible has occurred. Mr. Bust is well known in this city, and is highly esteemed by a large circle of friends, who will be anxious in regard to his disappear ance. It is a mysterious case, and we can only wait for further particulars. The Tobacco Warehouse Ques tion. Our readers will remember that Martin, Gardner & Co, leased the ground on the river bank, between Division and Pine Streets, for the purpose of erecting a tobacco ware house thereon. Bids were advertised for, and plans and specifications pre pared, but before the contracts were awarded, certain parties sued out an injunction restraining Martin, Gard ner & Co. from building thereon. The defendants proposed to settle the matter in a legal way, and had a con ference with the city authorities, and it was agieed to let the Supreme Court settle the matter. Yesterday, in the Common Pleas Court, Judgs Johnson, presiding, agreed facts in the case were submit ted. Messrs. Igleheart and Dyer ap peared for Martin, Gardner & Co., and Judge Parrett appeared cn be half of the city. Judge Johnson decided against the plaintiffs and in favor of the city, and au appeal has been taken to the Supreme Court, where the mattei will be shortly set- tied. In the meantime, Martin, Gard ner & Co. arc having a large amount of brick hauled to the proposed site, with the expectation of the suit being decide ! in their favor. Another Feat of the Chivalry. By a private letter from a reliable source we lcr.ru that on Sunday, four persons in disguise went to the' house of a negro man, about eight miles from Casey ville, Ky., and robbed him of what money he had on hand eight dollars his pocket knife, and some other small articles. It has been supposed that the negro had sev eral hundred dollars on hand, as he is an industrious, saving man, who has accumulated some property, such as wagons, horses, cattle, &c, and has a good growing crop. Wc are glad to know that all good men in Kentucky deprecate such wanton outrages on inoffensive negroes,' but the perpetra tors should be hunted down and sent to the penitentiary. ; Arrest of Laurent. John P. Laurent, who stabbed 0vcn Holmes, on Tuesday night, was arrested at his house yesterday morning. He had a preliminary examination before .'Squire Walker, and was held to bail in the sum cf 500, which he promptly gave, and was released. It is said by those who pretend lo be posted in the matter, that Laurent acted, in self-defense, although Laurent is said to be a very rjuarrelsome man. Holmes is still in a critical condi tion, although, the symptoms in his case seem to be favorable. It is highly probable that he will recover. tS?"
