Being in the office of the Indiana State Sentinel on
Saturday laut, my particular friend and opponent for j j q.
auditor, John V. Hamilton, made his appearance and
procured a considerable number of the full Peinocrat-
Tnn Chinamen. The IJoston Transcript gives the
following account of the celestials brought by Mr.
Peters of N. York, and who created so much curiosi
ty while there:

oruer to divine the reason lor tins strange procedure,
in one who I had been led to believe desired any thing
else than my election, lias this man, thought I, turn
ol Democrat, deserted the whig-sand declined running
for auditor 1 Has the annexation of Texas and do
termination of President Polk to Hog the Uriti-h ra
ther than give up Oregon determined him to support
the Democratic candidates for Congress and the State
Legislature ! I could not believe that either of these
motives governed him, and that only two considera
tions could have operated upon him in the purchase of
these tickets. The first to ailbrd himself and friends
a facility to swap olT one or both the whig candidates
for Representative, for Democratic votes for Auditor ;
and the other to give him an opoprtunity to scratch oil
my name from the Democratic ticket and insert his
own; and, by having these mutilated or spurious
Democratic tickets placed among the genuine on the
day of the election, he has hopes of thus smuggling
in a few Democratic votes at each of the townships,
and, by this means, securing his election. The whole
procedure goes to show that my competitor despairs
of his election on fair arid honorable terms, and that
some resort of this kind must be had or he will be de
feated. If any Democrats choose to vote for Mr.
Hamilton, they have a right to do so, for I am flattered
with the assurance that many of my old Whig friends,
out of personal kindness, will give me their votes. I
hope, however, that my Democratic friends in each of
the townshijw will look out for Democratic tickets
Yilh my name scratched out and John V. Hamilton's
inserted, mingled up with the rest, for the purpose of
deception, in the hurry of the e'ection, and see that
no voter is in this way defrauded out of his vote.
(-Since writing the above I have learned that these
spurious or mutilated tickets are to be extensively cir
culated on the line of our Railroad, with a view, by
deception, of securing the votes of the Democratic
Irishman and Germans engaged on the work, many
of whom are personally unacquainted with me. I con
fess that when I heard this, the Irish blood which
courses in my veins flowed with great rapidity. Know
in" I had ever been tha defender of the sons of the
Emerald Isle, as well as all others who have sought a
refuge and a home on our shores, both in a public and
private capacity, and knowing too that of all others
they most despise hypocrisy and deception, I trust
that Generous hearted Irishmen and (icrmans will b
found to sec that I have fair play in the election.
Respectfully, NATU AM EL 1)0 ETON.
July srsiMr.
P. S. The above plan being exposed, I would cau
taion my Democratic friends against printed Demo
cratic tickets with my name left out and Mr. Hamil
ton's inserted, as a plan of this kind may now le an
ticipated. It is with reluctance I publish this notice,
as the county will bear me witness that I have treat
ed my opponent respectfully. Rut self defence impels

king. He is about thirty-live years of age, and has process of law. The Virginians say that thoy had
much more the appearance i f a philosopher than a
musician. He lias a very sedate ami impcruiroauic
look; and we understand he has never, since leaving
China, manifested any symptoms of excitement, ex
cept when he first got" into the cars upon the railroad,
on his way from New York to Roston. He is, in
fact, un inveterate Chinese; and seems determined
not to become a barbarian' if he can help it. Mr.
Weed, supercargo, mid Captain Kilham, of the ship
Razaar, in which the Museum and the Chinese gen
tlemen were brought out, took considerable pains to
instruct Lekoking in some of the facts of European
science, b'.U in vain. He obstinately persists in his
oriental notion of the perfection of the human race;
has no idea of the march of mind and all that sort of
thing ; and in spite of the testimony of his own eyes,
still doggedly maintains that the world is not round,
but as tlat as a pancake, and as long as from China
to New York. ,
Tsow-Chaoong is much more tractable ; and takes
great delight in the developments of the new world.
He is charmed with this country, and says he means,
after he has filled his three years engagement with
the proprietors of the Museum, to go to China and
see his father and mother, and then come back here
and live. He is about "Si years old, speaks Canton
English pretty intelligibly, and writes a fair English
hand. We have before us a specimen of Tsow-Cha-oong's
chirography, wliich shows that he Jkis already
made considerable proficiency in his European educa
tion. The other one appears to be of humbler rank, and
to hive fewer Chinese peculiarities. He comes, v, c
believe, in the capacity of a servant, and as a matter
of convenience has assumed the European dress.

knowledge of the designs of the Ohioans, which M-(v
derived unquestionably from the negroes; and that
hey were thus prepared to defeat the designs of both
artics. The friends of the captured whites tell this
itory ; that some seven weeks since, they were solic
ited by a white man, an elder in the Runtisl. Chiirr-h
in Virginia, and our informant thinks his name is
Romaine, to aid the escape of the negroes ; that they
refused to leave this State for tbat purpose; but said
hey were always ready to help the bond in their
eiforts to gain their liberty ; and that he returned and
entered into the plot agiinst them, for a promised
reward if they were captured of titty dollars.
I he Ohioans are to be eyamined on rndav ot tin?
week, before a called County Court, on the question
of their commitment for trial before the Superior
Court in September. The excitement is very great
on both sides. In Virginia, half the inhabitants of
Parkei-sburgh are armed, and prepared to repel any
attempt to release the prisoners. In Washington
county, in this State, meetings have been held in four
townships, (and several others are to meet,) with the
object mainly, to ensure a fair trial of the Ohioans,
though .in two of them threats have been made to
cure lawlessness by a violation of law in other
words, to tear down Parkersburgh jail, and so give
freedom to their townsmen. .
We w ish our friends in Ohio to be firm, but cool.
