Instruction. --The following is an nnmsinu
description of a certain kind if ''domestic education"
which wc have occasionally been witnesses of:

Stkan;e I'ktri faction. A Mr. Woodward, of
Warren county, O., said tobe a man of veracity, gives
the Editor of the Eaton Register the following account
of a Petrified Woman. It occurred near Lebanon.
" On the sixth day of last month, our venerable and
much esteemed friend, John C. Irwin, closed his earth
ly career, in the full hope of a happy immortality. On
the following day an appropriate funeral discourse
was delivered by Elder W. Clark. His remains were
decently interred in the grave yard near West Lebanon.
Some time previous to his death, he had expressed a
desire that the body of his tirt wife should be remov
ed to this grave yard. Accordiggly, on the 'Jlth ult.,
the citi.iMis if Lebanon undertook to remove the re
miins of Mrs. Irwin. 1 went with others in search
of her grave. We found it on a very hijrh point of
white oak ground, near Lock Lreek, where they had
formerly lived. And when we had opened the grave
down to the cotiiu, we found it about one fourth in
water, and the plank of the colli n very rotten ; how-
e' er, we jrot several pieces of bark under it, to bind
it together, and litt it out. From the great weight of

me coinn, we were curious to mc it opened; and to
our utter astonishment, there lay the body in full size !
It was covered with a thin scum ol black dirt, which
appeared to be alue with v ry little worms, of a yel
low color, but they t?o.n disappeared, when expoti
to the air. When we cai;e to examine, more minute
ly, we found tint the body had petrified, and become
a smooth nite Imitte-ue in appearance, i'he hea
and ner!k had netrilied. and tiothiiiir remained but
the naked Une, and the hairs of the head, and sont!
feathers which had been in a pitlow. H r arms had
petrified at the elbow joint, and nothing remained of
the lower part of the arms and hav'ls, but the na
ked b mes. The f'.-t had also petrified, and fell o'n
at the ankle joint ; and the stone nppeared hvllv. At
the knee joints, the lcirs :ippmd to U solid stone.
Around ea-h leg, where she were her garters b.'ing
a very tleshy woman the garteis had made a deep
impression, and this impression was plainly visible in
the ston, except some parts where it appeared solid.
The thickness of the stone was about tint of common
Spanish sole leather.
