THE CAPITOL DESTROYED !!
We (lop (he press 10 give place to the fol
lowing telegraphic rlespaich received at the
office of the Poriland Avertiser at 11 1-2
o’clock, to day, (Wednesday). It says:
The Capitol at Washington was in flames
at 9 o’clock this morning! Congressional
Library all destroyed ! Fire still raging and
water scarce !
The Boston Tea Party. Of the famous
band of patriots, who destroyed the tea in Bos
ton Harbor, on the memorable 16th of Decem
ber, 1773, just seventy-nine years ago, one is
still living, ns we learn from the last nnmber
of Harper's Magazine! When the present
century dawned, he had almost reached the
goal of threescore _years and ten! . And now
at the age of one hundred and fifteen years,
David Kinnison, of Chicago, Illinois, holds
the eminent position of the last survivor of the
Boston Tea Party!
We learn from Key West that the grand
jury have returned true bills against the riot
ers who destroyed the Spanish stores in Au
gust, during the Cuban excitement. They
will be tried at the present term of the court.
Lighting up with Gas. On Mnnday even
ing last the gas was first lighted in Portsmouth.
As is usual on the first night, the lights were
rather blue and dim at the first clearing of the
pipes—but on Tuesday evening the burners
sent forth a more clear and beautiful light—
and on the third evening they exhibited all the
brilliance desired. The stores now present a
most lively and brilliant aspect.—Portsmouth
Journal.
Singular Detention of a Railway Train.—
The half past 3 P. M. train, yesterday, from
New York for Boston, upon the New Haven
Railroad, when about twenty minutes this side
of New York, was detained two hours by a
heavy rock which had been thrown upon the
track from a ledge where blasting was going
on. It was found necessary to insert a blast
in the rock and blow it up, as the only feasible
way of removing it. The passengers by this
train did not reach the city until between two
and three o’clock this morning.—Travelei 18.

A LEGISLATIVE PAPER.
THE subscribers will publish, during the ensuing win
ter session of the Legislature, VOL. VII! of the
TRICE \\ EEK LY JOUR XAL. to he devoted to Re
ports of Legislative Proceedings—the General Politi
cal News of the Day—and Choice Selections of Mis
cellaneous Matter.
The proceedings oft he coming session will he of more
than ordinary interest, as there are many important
measures of legislation, requiring the attention of the
two branches. Among them the most prominent arc —
the General Apportionment of State Representatives
and Senators under the new Census, and the District
ing for six instead of seven Members of Congress, in
volving questions of much political interest— the adop
tion or rejection of a system of Free Hanking, and an
Insolvent Law—many important Railroad Questions,
involving perhaps propositions for ait indirect pledge of
State Credit or a direct appropriation of Siate lands or
funds in aid of one or two great routes—and probably an
effort will be made to repeal the new Liquor Law. in
evitably producing great excitement and the most ani
mated debates.
Of these and all other discussions, we shall present
the spirit and substance, so far as can be done in the
space at our command. A small paper only can be sus
tained by the.subscriptions which will probably be re
ceived. It will not be expected, therefore. 1 hat any
thing more than an abstract of debates generally can be
given, with the exception, occasionally, of debates of a
very important character, which will be sometimes
more fully reported.
The price of the Trice-Weekly Journal will be ONE
DOLL \ R for the Session—invariably in advance.
It will be published on Monday, Wednesday aud
Friday mornings. Hr this arrangement, ihe Thrice
Weekly Journal and Thrice Weekly Age will be issued
on alternate days— thus furnishing a Daily Legislative
