Urand standard Consecrated. ;> .»— San Franciboo, August Bth.— The Grand Standard of the Knights Templar, about to leave for Chicago to attend the conclave of the Order, was consecrated to-day at Grace Church . with imposing ceremonies. The Knights, with the standard furled, marched to the door of the ehnrch, where they were met by the Rector, Rev. Dr. Piatt, and a formal request preferred for a consecration of the standard. The procession marched to the altar, where the usual ritual was performed, the Knights making a general confession, kneeling, followed by absolution. This was succeeded by the anthem, "Venite Jtlxolt emus Domino" and the doxology. The Rec tor then read the lesson for the occasion, fol lowed by the Te Deum. After the hymn, V Soldiers of Christ, Arise," the Rector, de scending from the pulpit, duly consecrated the banner with an address. " Gloria in Ex celsis" was then rendered, and the Grand Commander received the standard from the Rector. The Knights saluted it, and singing a recessional hymn, marched forth from the ohuroh. An unusually large congregation gathered to witness the ceremony. . Base Ball— Tbe tiand Lot. San Jose, August 7th.— The Republican County Convention assembled to-day at City Market Hall. There-were eighty-three dele gates present. The following nominations were made : For the Assembly, C. Wentz, John Reynolds and Milus Gay ; Sheriff,!. K. Williams; County Clerk, M.J. Ashmore; Auditor and Recorder, Hamilton Stephens ; Treasurer and Collector, Win. Erkson ; Dis trict Attorney, l're.-sly M. Bruner ; County Surveyor, W. A. Richards ; Coroner and Public Administrator, Dr. J. T. Harris. The delegates chosen by the Convention at large to the State aud Congressional Conven tions a. Sacramento were : J. P. Sargeaut, H. M. Leonard and M I). Hyde. The mem bers of the County Committee were S. J. Hinds and O. I). Wright. Nominations for County Assessor, County School Superintendent and Supervisors were deferred until the Supreme Court decides whether the officers are to be elected this year, and if the' Court decides affirmatively, then the County Committee is empowered to place on the regular ticket tiie names of the it ■ -nt i icumbentsfor re-election, where Re publicans, and where not Republicans then to place on the ticket the named of Republi cans they may select. The Convention then adjourned and im mediately after the San Jose delegation as sembled and nominated officers for San Jose township as follows: Justice of the Peace, W. W. Williams ; Constables, .1. K. Hal!, la, W. Denan ; Justice of the Peace for the City of San Jose, Charles X. Senter. Nan Joaquin l.miin Rrjinbllraniu Stockton, August 7th.— The Republic™ County Convention met at 10 A. m. at Mozart Hall, with a full attendance of delegates. H. T. Dorrance, of Stockton, was elected tem porary Chairman, and W. A. Cowdery tem porary Secretary. After the appointment of the usual committees a recess was taken, and on reassembling in the afternoon a platform was adopted. It pledges th; Convention to the Republican party and indorses the nom ination of General Garfield. Santa Rosa, August 7th.— The Repub lican County Convention which convened here to-day elected IL W. Bvtogton, Chair loan, and J, McCaughey, Secretary. August 7th.— The stag which lilt here for Forest Hill last night was robbed by two niaiknJ men near the Grizzly Bear House, about ten miles from this place. The. robbers took the iron treasure-box, contain- Ing over $1,060, ; out of the stage, and es caped with . weir booty. They mil be fol- : lowed at once. Stocmom, August 7th.— Secretary Schurz and party arrived at Stockton at noon, by the Milton train, on their way from the Yosem ite, and left ■ immediately thereafter on the train for Sacramento. Quite a crowd assem bled at the depot, and among the prominent Republicans who tendered their congratula tions were Otis Periiu, J. W. Sperry and Dr. Stockton. He was met, also, by a delegation of the Stockton Turn Verein. ; - I Crushed by a Thrashing Machine. Stockton, August 7th.— Frank Rhodes, a young man 25 years of age, employed on a thrashing machine owned by a man named Corey, in operation on the Sonora road, six miles from this city, fell from the stack to day into the cylinder of the thrasher, crushing his left leg so badly that it was found neces sary t.i amputate it below the knee, - EI Dorado ___.cpabllcans. __-.' Placerville, August 7th.— The El Dorado County Republican Convention to-day unan imously recommended Geo. G. Blanchard for elector. The Convention also -. nominated Thos. Frazer for the Assembly, and indorsed Cyrus Coleman, of Alpine, as joint Assem blyman ; and for Supervisors, Thos. Hardie, A. A. Bayley and W. 8. Gilbert were chosen. ■ The Carlton Murder Trial. San Jose, August 7th.— The trial of Geo. W. Carlton was resumed in 'the 'Superior Court to-day at 9A. M. After the introduc tion of considerable testimony on both sides the Coutt adjourned until Monday, when the arguments will open. Hnuglng to a Tree. San Andreas, August 7th. —J. C. Nunich was found to-day hanging by the neck from a pine tree in the Catholic cemetery. Decom ■ position showed he had committed suicide several days ago. .. Portland, August 7th. — Work on the Or egon and California Branch Kailroad, from Albany to Lebanon, in Linn county, is pro gressing rapidly. The grading for half the distance between the points is completed, and all bridges and culverts for that distance are finished. A large force of Chinamen are en gaged in grading. Chatincey Moore, a lad aged 10 years, while bathing in Crab Tree creek, in Linn county, yesterday, was seired with cramps and drowned. The body was recovered. Rust has again made its appearance in many of the large wheat fields in Linn county. It has attacked only the latest spring-sown grain on wet land, but it is bo late in putting in an appearance that it will do but very little damage. Mayor Clark of Corvallis, while returning home from a funeral yesterday, met with a serious accident. The team hi was driving took fright and backed the carriage over a steep bluff into tht Willamette river. Mrs. Clark and her daughter Lulu jumped in time to save themselves, while Mr. Clark and his daughter Jennie were thrown down the bank into the water, a distance of about thirty feet. Both were rescued from drowning, and strange to say, neither received any injuries worth mentioning. The team, which was a valuable one, lodged on a ledge of rock in the bluff, where they were rescued with great difficulty. The escape of the family was al most miraculous. ITASIII.VCTOV TF.UBITOBY. Pikksis, August 7th. — The Garfield and Arthur Club completed its organization last night hy the election of Dr. Sheets, President, and C. E. 'iintoek, Secretary. The meeting was addressed by G. C. Taylor, who flaunted the " blsody shirt " much to the dis pleasure of the Democrats present. The club now has a membership of 106 against i 77 in the Democratic Club.
