Bravery is deserving of recognition and Toward at all times, although it not infre quently happens that such recognition is not bestowed, Tho recent polico changes call to mind n few incidents of bravery In tho caiccr of Officer Qeorgo Luskoy, who, though a halo and hearty man still, has been on tho forco for sixteen years, bcsiilos having previously mado a brilliant record as a soldier under Gonoral "Pap" Thonras, tho hero of Cbichatnauga, O Ulcer Luskoy 's pluck has mado him a terror to tho ovil doers, and tliero is perhaps no officer on tho forco who has been in moro "tight places," or mado moro difficult arrests, than ho. Several years ago ho was sent to a notori ous brothel in Kast Washington to arrest tho proprietor, Chris, llohlayer, who mado bold in- saying upon all occasions that ho had killed soveral policemen, and would novcr bo taken alive. Officer I.U3koy entered tho place, and was met In tho hall way by Bohlaycr, who held a rlflo in his hand. "Como another stop, and I'll shoot you," exclaimed tho latter, excitedly. Hut Officer Luskey spraug forward to arrest his man and at the samo instant tho gun was discharged, tho ball entering Luskey'a loft breast, passing through his body. Still ho mado for Bohlaycr, wbo clubbed tho rlflo and dealt tho officer a powerful blow on tho head. Covered with blood and with his coat on flro from tho nearness of tho rlflo when it was discharged, Officer I.uskoy knocked Bohlaycr down with his baton, dragged him from tho houso and carried him to tho station-house. Ofllcor Luskoy is still ono of tho heartiest men on tho force, except occasionally slight troubles from ills tcrriblo wound. Uo has a largo family. Thcro is no charge against him, but tho Chief of Polico has decided that ho shall bo "honorably discharged," and ho must go. FINANCIAL. To-ilny's .Stock lnotntlonH. Tho rejection ottho original bids was made on tho 23d instant, leaving just ono week beforo tho 1st of May. For this reason tho bids will havo to bo opened, contract prepared and awarded, contiactors qualify and contract entered into on Monday noxt. This will bo a remarkably quick way of disposing of a matter that usually consumes days of red tape. Tho insufficiency of tho appropriation is owing to tbo lough estimates of tbooxponso by tbo school board and District commit tees, no accurato estimates ovor having been prepared by tbo Iuspcctor of Buildings.
