Goldbh Lists or Kisdkco.—Blessed is the home that holds in tbe midst one cen tral magnet, about erhich throbbing hearts —reddened by the same blood—move with never-failing attraction! When the golden links of kindred, circling that hu man loadstone, are strong, and bright, and many, who can measure the wealth of love that lies within their holy compass ? With every shining fetter, sdded to the predo us round, new joys spring into ex istsoee—new interests bind us to sacred memories of tbe past, or sweet associa tions of the present —new affections bend us earthward, toward those who come to make earth dearer, or lift us heavenward, with those who ascend to tbe skies. The commonest events of life—events of every-day occurrence to all humanity— send an electric thrill of pleasure through that far-reaching chain of kinship, and stirring, sympathetic pulses draw the bond of union closer. A little child opens its sinless eyes upon the dsy,—behold, another link put forth for tender lips to kiss into brightness,— for loving arms to welcome,—for swelling hearts to give room, —for voiceless bene dictions to cover! A youth or maiden stretches out a hand, with heart within, and lo I another link is clasped, by wedding-ring, upon the kin bound chain, —and nuptial gifts, and fes tive gatherings, and food congratulations, greet Ua admission. Tbe angel of Death descends, and sin plea out the purest link, and softly bears it to a home invisible. Tears of agony moat flow, and grief-wrung hearts must ache, —but tears that fall from many eyes, weeping together, lose tbeir bitterness,— and heavy hearts that lean on one another find tbeir load of sorrow lightened. Other less mournful partings come ; some of tbe close-knit band must make tbeir homes on foreign shores,—but ocean cables are less strong and true than bonds of union that no seas can aever ; and rap tors grows out of tbe very psngs of ab sence, when wanderers return, with tiny links hanging, like diamond pendants, from their own hearth-band. Birth marriage death parting meeting—those are but trite and every day events, vet through the golden links of kindred they send a current of emotion that stirs many hearts, and makes epochs in many Uvea! O, keep the links pure and bright, however wide the chain, and burdens of sorrow will be lessened, be cause shared, and sources of Joy will swell in number because they reach as far as blood extends. Hbaht Pones.—A man’s force in this •world, other things being equal, is just in tbe ratio of the strength and force of his heart A full hearted man is always a giowarful man. ]f be be erroneous, he is nwnerful for error ; if the thing is in bis mart, bo is sura to make it notorious, «*roo though it be downright falsehood, lot A man bo ever so ignorant, still, if his heart is full of love to the cause, he becomes a powerful man for that object ; because bo baa heart power, heart-force. A man may ba deficient in many of tbe advantages of education, in many of those niceties which are so much looked upon in society, but once give him a strung heart that beats hard, and there is no mis take about his power. Let him have a heart that is right full up to the brim with an object, and that man will do the thing, or else be will die gloriously de feated. Memory.—“ Nothing ever grows old in tba memory.” When the mind hits be come absorbed with the cares of life; when the eyes have been dimmed with the veil which time has thrown over them; when the strength of manhood has de parted and the aspiration which hope once inspired have been extinguished for ever, still the scenes of childhood are viv idly dagnerreotyped upon the tablets of memory. The recollections of other days come up before us, and if anything, of mortality survives the tomb, these cher ished mementoes of the human heart will never perish. As the little boy that died long are is an eternal child, and he crept over the threshhold of Heaven's gates ajar, at tbs beckoning of the angel, so ever in the memory of the heart his parting look remains as untouched by timo as the norent aky that let the little wanderer in. / —— To* Joe aw et or Line.—Ten thousand hnma* beings set forth together on their Jonrney. After ten years, one third at teas* nave disappeared. At the middle point of the common measure of life, but keif are still upon the road. Resolved, Thai we are oppoard to the employ ment of force by the General Government against ■ the seceded States for the purpose of compelling I obedience and submission to Federal authority, j g. Rmolted. That we are In favor of the preser ; ration of the Union upon Constitutional guarantees I which will be acceptable to both sections of the Con : federacy; but if that desirable consummation be I impossible, then we are in favoi of the recognition j of the independence of the Confederate States, and j a treaty of amity and peace between them nnd the ; United Btates Government, as the only alternative | which will terminate the horrors of civil war, and bring back peace and happiness to our distracted country. 4. Rmolted. That it 1* the duty of the Fiate of California, aa a member ©f the Union, to yield obe dience to all constitutional acts of Congress, and to all constitutional and legal acts of the Federal Ex ecutive. ft. Rrsoltrd, That the President of the United States has b4-en guilty of violation of the Constitu tion, and usurpation of power, In borrowing and ap propriating money, raising armies and increasing the navy, without the authority of Congress, and that snch acta are dangerous to liberty, and tend to convert tbe Ooreroment Into a military despotism. 4. Resolved, That we arc opposed to the tariff passed by the loot Congress, known as the Morrill Tariff, and that we here reiterate the doctrine of the Democratic party-in favor of free trade, and in op position to any tariff which looks to the protection of particular ii.tercsts at the expense of otheis, nnd that the principle here ennneiated Is of more import ance to the people of the Pacific States and Territo ries thin to any other portion of the Union. 7. Rwv'l.ted, That the speedy construction of a Pacific Railroad Is a national necessity ; and that the Democracy of California earnestly urge the use of the public money In aid of such work. Instead of the prosecution of a war for the subjugation of the seceded States. «. Resolved, That we recognls* the plan of settle ment proposed by Hon. J. J. Crittenden, of Ken tucky, In the Senate of the United Slates, as being patriotic and just to all aectious of the Unloo, and it should have been adopted as a settlement of the difficulties existing between the two sections. 9 Resolved. That this Convention is unequivocally opposed to the Bulkhead scheme, either directly or ; indirectly, and that we will use all honorable means , to prevent and defeat a measure which is eminently | calculated to creaste a moneyed monopoly for a few, I at the expense of the best interests of the many, j 10. Resolved, That we tender the hand of cordial | welcome and friendship to those old, tried Democrats iu the Eastern States, who, regardless of threats or menaces, are standing unflinchingly at their posts, battling in defence of the old Anglo-Paxon rights of freedom of speech and person against Executive usurpations and unauthorised assumptions of power, destructive to the liberties of the people and subver sive of a free goTernimnt.
