OoO during' vy. , Now that Frank Baker has con sented to imitate Pattl another time ! and will return to the Yankees to play third base Miller Iluggins once more j is confronted with the problem- of placing Chick Fewster, the most peppery player on the club. Fewster is an infielder. He is at his best at shortstop or third base, and at third base he ought to be played. But with Baker and his bat back Hiiggins no doubt will incline toward the policy of safety first and will give the veteran the hot corner. I Fewster will play either the out ! field, for which he is not fitted, or j second base. Derrill Pratt has not I been getting any stronger either as a 1 fielder or as a batter. His arm has not been gaining in power of direc tion, so it may be at second base that Fewster) finally will find himself when the bell rings for the big show to open. In Fewster and -Friseh the Xew York clubs have a pair of young sters whose 'Styles are similar. . Because of the ravages that the world war made in the ranks of Eng land's youth, Oxford and Cambridge will send a combined team to rep resent . their country to compete I against the best college teams of the j United States. They have chosen Ihe two-mile relay as the event in ! jv.hi.ch they will compete, and they f will undoubtedly be a very hard nut .forthe American teams to crack. ! . , Orie of the. members of the Cam , bridge-Oxford squad that will be : sent across the seas .will be Mon - tague. the greatest distance man in , Kngland. and if the University of I Pennsylvania can find, suitable op ponents for him, a special three mile race will also be put on. Mon i tague, six weeks ago, won the Cam , bridge-Oxford cross country race, t making a new record, "in spite of the fact that frequently during the race j he dropped back 60 or 70 yards to j urge on his mates. He won with j ridiculous ease and to the astonish- ment of the ,crowd established a new record for the course. The rc j lay management will query' the va- iious American colleges at once for j entries for the thrcc-mile race., and 'it is expected that some very Tine ; distance men will be found to give ' ba.ttle to the redoubtable Knglish collegiate distance runner. Jackson us manager, through whose influence the coming Of the team was made possible, and Alfred Shrubb, the famous distance runner and for several years the coach of the Harvard cross country team and distance men, as coach. Shrubb will guar antee that the English collegians will be in the pink of condition when they meet America's best on May 1. The query at once arises as to whether America will have the ma terial to meet this formidable for eign invasion. Coach Robertson of Pennsylvania stated at once that, though he had intended to put his big efforts on the one-mile event, he will make every effort to have a team that will give battle to the Eng lishmen. . But America's hopes will not be wholly dependent, on Pennsylvania. Yale and Harvard have very good .two-mile teams. In 'fact, Yale was considered as the fastest ; two-mile relay of the recent indoor season. In Reed, Oriscoll, O'Brien, Siemens and Heffelfinger the Klis have five men capable of beating two minutes. Reed and Driscoll have won many impor tant middle distance races this win ter, and they will make 'the Yale team very hard to beat. It will also be remembered that Harvard was beaten only one foot by Yale in a rtwo-mile relay race, so the Crimson will also have to be reckoned with. Chicago is also said to have Very good material for this event, so that Cambridge-Oxford will have the hardest of competition to meet here. It should be one. of the. greatest sporting events of the year, and .Franklin held will.no doubt be too small to hold the crowd that will clamor for admission.
