An lncroase tllghtly larger than
normal la shown In final figure on
attendance In New Britain schools.
These figures, show that the attend
ance lias passed the 11,000 mark,
1. 11,301 children, or an Increase of
743 over last year's total of 10,552,
are registered. The 1923 Increase
was 603, so that this, year's jump la
considerably larger than -last year's.
One notable feature of the figure
Is the decrease In attendance at the
Senior high school. The only other
decrease Is at the Camp school,
which Is accounted for by the open
ing of the nearby Walnut Hill school.
The large surplus In the Washington
ichool has now been accommodated
In the Bartlett school, which has
been re-opened. The figures follow:

New York Sleuths Expect Ar
rests in Bobe Case
New York, Sept. 19. For the first
lime since Miss Edith Bobe and her
wealthy escort, Robert It. Hague,
were held up and robbed of a small
fortune In Jewels In the fashionable
modiste's apartment Monday night,
detectives Investigating the case
hinted that the solution of the mys
tery was at hand.
. Following a conference botween
Inspector John D. Coughlln and Miss
Irene Flaherty, secretary to Miss
Bobe, the Inspector prophesied an
arrest would be made soon that
would end the search for the rob
bers.. He would not say whether
Miss Flaherty had furnished him
with a list of the guests e( Miss
Bobe's birthday party' Saturday
night. It was at this party, which
was said to have been attended by
many of Broadway's celebrities, that
police believe bandits secured Infor
mation enabling them to plan the
holdup.
They have expressed the belief
that one or more of them gained ac
cess to the party disguised as a
guest while the celebration was at Us
height.
From another source It was learn
ed that the man under suspicion Is
already being sought In connection
with the recent theft of $9,000
worth of Jewels from Mrs. Howard
Johnson, wife of a playwright. This
man was said to be a member of
the notorious Gondorf gang.
At the same time It was learned
that police officials attach little Im
portance to the two arrests already
made in the case. The police place
no credence In the suggestion, made
by the district attorney's office, that
Montague Pike, arrested Wednesday
night after he had asked Miss
Flaherty for $400 for Information
concerning the disposition of the
stolen Jewels, was connected with
the crime It was said.
The other prisoner, David 01 ea
ton, who Insisted, that he was one of
the four bandits, told such a con
flicting story that his confession was
scouted by the detectives. Never
theless he was held on a charge of
petit larceny and will be subjected
to an exhaustive questioning at
headquarters today.
Several Klan Officers
Indicted in West Va.
Falrmount, W. Va., Sept. 19. Six
teen persons, among them several
men credited with being state offi
cers of the ku klux klan, were In
dicted by the Marlon county grand
Jury today upon various fharges
growing out of the shooting last
February of Daniel Washington, a
negro, after he had been attacked
by a band of hooded men.
Among those Indicted, Included
Rev. O. E. Brown, said to be head
of two provinces of the klan In West
Virginia, and Rev. J, Walter Barnes,
said to be the chaplain, respectively,
of the Fairmont klan.
TO FIGHT TONIGHT
' New York, Sept. 19. When Jack
Reddlck, the rugged Canadian boxer,
enters the ring at Madison Square
Garden tonight against Paul Berlen
bach, he will have the Strlbllng fam
ily of Georgia back of him. Young
Strlbllng, who recently fought Ber
lenbach, lias given lilm sparring
workouts and he Is boxing under the
management of Pa Strlbllng. The
bout Is scheduled to go 12 rounds to
a decision.
