Miss Johnson says she has people
on her list who really do not need a
dinner. They are capable ef provid
ing their own food, but an unex
pected gift ef some luxury, common

meeting of the Swedish Shipowners'
association.
The new log operates with a mar
gin of error of lees than 1 per cent,
compared wl'h an error of aa
much as 10 per cent in the case ef
some other logs ordinarily used by
j merchant vessels. It is baaed en
I the principle that the pressure of
I water from the direction toward
which movement Is made, varies
with the speed of the vessel. Ex
tending down througij the bottom ef
the vessel is a tube with an opening
en the forward side near the lower
end. The water level Inside tali
tube varies mere or less above aea
level according to the epeed Of the
ship, and the indicating mechanism
has electrical connection with the
bridge which enable the navigator
to tell Instantly the speed of the
ship and the distance sailed.
