The twelve federal reserve banks, the bureau of engraving and prlnt ' Ing and other treasury bureaus were represented. Assistant Secretary Dewey explained that the dollar bill now averaged a life of seven months, and that more than a million such bills were printed last year at a cost of 1 7-10 cents each. Treasury officials hope to stimu late greater use of the two and live dollar bills, which cost proportion ately less to produce, so that, the one-dollar bills may be held longer for seasoning before being put into circulation. Sorrow and family will leave this week for their sum mer rottage at East River where they will remain the rest of the summer. Mrs. Bernice Wegman and daugh ter, of Sluart street havo returned from their vacation, having visited many beaches along the sound. Miss Betsy Starkweather of Ridg way street has returned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bart lett. of Saracuse, N. T. The Bartletts were formerly of Maple Hill. They motored here, and then went on to Stafford Springs where they will spend their vacation. Although young and old have flocked to the shores, there seems to be plenty of social doings with those left on the hill. A bridge party was held at Mrs. U I. Harding's on Uobhins avenue, and there was a bridge party at Mrs. h. M. Ban croft's of Robbins avenue. The young people with their "ukeiv" have managed to make several ee nings go faster. Mrs. Jonathan Hart of Thomp son street was visiting friends for a short while on the Hill. Mrs. Hart Is at her summer cottage at Madison tor the summer. Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Grant and their daughter of Golf street will leave Sunday by auto for Lake George where they will remain for a week. Jack Starkweather leaves this week for a two weeks' vacation at Camp Jewell, Kecne, New Hamp shire. A. G. Stenberg. his two sons, and his son-in-law. who were wen u-nown on the Hill before they moved to Hartford, had a narrow escape from drowning last Sunday when the boat they were in over turned in a squall. They were res cued by a man in a motor boat who found them holding on to the bot tom of their overturned boat. Neither Itodnick McQuarrie and Prank Hewey were members of the Salvation army, according to a statement made this morning by Ensign Carl Frederlckson of the Sallies, McQuarrie and Hewey were convicted of a serious charge made by two of McQuarrle's daughters in police court last week. At that time a statement was made that they members of the Salvation army. "We do not have people or that kind in the army," said Ensign this .morning.. .'..... .' Ensign Frederlckson reports that because of the erroneous report that the men were members of the Salvation army the army has suffered considerable Injustice and loss of prestige as a result.
