The money was consigned to the New Britain Trust company and was sent by U. 8. mall. There was a. large sum In bags of different de nominations, said to be coming from the federal reserve bank at Boston, The robbery took place at Hart flrd, either on the railroad platform or some place nearby, before the bage got to tlw post office. No one saw the robbery, which was discov ered first when It was found that a pouch had been slit with a sharp knife and a bag of cash taken out. A federal official checked up on the missing amount and found that the thief had gotten awny with a bag containing the sum of $10, all In pennies. Refuses to Pay Fare, Fined $10 and Costs Max Balo of 83 West street was in the Stamford police court yesterday morning for rcfustng to pay his far on the train from New Haven Sun day night, and the charge was nolled against him on payment of $10 costs and the amount of the fare, to the railroad conductor. Salo was going to New York and when (he conductors changed at New Haven, he one In charge of the train out of the city found that Salo had noth ing to show that his fare had been paid. Asked for the money, Salo refused to pay It with the result that he was turned over to the police when the. train reached Stamford. Schmidt. was sntenced at Rochester, N. Y., to ten years for participation1 In the robbery of a mail train. Chapman is alleged to have been a. member of the gang to which Schmidt belonged. To men in city court today were committed on charges of interfering with an of ficer. A third man, arrested on a similar charge, had his case nolled when the officer failed to identify him as one of the trio who prevent ed the officer arresting a woman here last night. The two convicted- were William Bosse, who was fined $26 and given a jail sentence of six months, and Mike Renelkouskl, flne-d $-f and costs and given lf days in jail for carrying a. dangerous weapon and fined $15 for it. Bosse, whose lull sentence was suspended, appealed. According to Henry H.
