New York Driver Held After Auto Turns Over Ptanifnrd. Aug. 2S (P When an automobile, operated by I.amont De nald of New York city, failed to take a curve going down Hamilton hill early this morning, It overturned and Mrs. Pelia Kunz. also of New Tork city, and one of four persons In the car, was Injured. She was taken to the Stamford hospital where It le said her condi tion Is serious. Dewald, who said that he was unfamiliar with the road, was held on a charge of reckless driving. He suffered a few scratches. Neither of the other two nag Injured. AIR MAIL POUCH SHY SOMELETTERS Possibility That Contents May Haye Been Stolen Chicago. Aug. 18 A mlfelng consignment of registered and other mall, believed to have left here by air last Tuesday, U the object of search between here and San Fran cisco. Inquiry Into its disappearance was begun when C. H. Christiansen, San Francisco postal inspector, notified postal authorities here that It had not arrived in Pan Kranclsco. Belief that the consignment, was stolen here before it was turned over to the air mall service la expressed by Christiansen. Inspectors here are holding a clerk who la reported to have accompanied the truck which carried the pouch from the post office to the air mall field. Dozens of employes in the post office and air mall fields here have been questioned. Slmlllar Inquiry has been ordered In Omaha, Denver; Cheyenne, Salt Lake City and other point on the air mall route. Cheyenne officials reported last night that t heir records showed no missing consignments. The pouch from which the mall was missing had not been tampered withVhen it arrived In Pan Fran cisco, but a list of contents In the pouch called for a consignment which was missing. A possibility that the consignment may have been taken somewhere en route and transferred from a plana to a fast mall train also la con sidered. Inspectors here cannot estimate the value of the missing mall until a check Is made, It may Include valuable commercial mall sent by Chicago banks to San Kranclsco.
