Winters Is under police guard In the City hospital, whero he was taken after the slnylng when he drove the bread Knife used In the murder Into his own chest. His life was despuircd of at first, but hospi tal officials now believe he will live. "I never bore either of them any III will," Williams protested, "even though Winters robbed me of my wife's love after almost three years of happy married life." Williams Is reputed to have some wealth. FUNERAL TOMORROW Taxicab Knocks Heavy Statue Off Its Base New York, Oct. 16 W "Com merce," a 15-foot statute represent ing a woman's figure, was toppled from Its base Id Central Park today when It was struck by a taxlcab. The statue, weighing several tons, was not badly damaged. The chauffeur of the' taxlcab and woman passenger were Injured but they left the scene before police ar rived. The taxlcab was wrecked. The statue stood at the Junction of the east and west driveways near Columbus Circle. New Bedford Entertains Visiting Southerners New Bedford, Mass., Oct. 16 (JPl Prominent business men of Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina, In the course of their touring through New England were guests of the city last n'ght and this fore noon. The feature of the reception last night was a dinner tendered them by the Now Bedford Chamber of Commerce at the New Bedford hotel, followed by a visit to the old Dartmouth Historical society to view old whaling relics. Fry walked Into police headquarters last night and told Captain Patrick Flanagan that sh wanted lodging overnight, since tn town had re fused to provide her with a suitable room after her ejectment from the house she had occupied. She was shown the woman's room and stayed there all night, leaving this morning. MRS. DUMBELL SUES Bridgeport Woman Is Seeking Ali mony of tS a Week from Her Former Preacher-Husband. Bridgeport, OoL 1 WO Anna Sherrod Dumbell, Darlen, whose hus band, Howard M. Dumbell, was former rector of an Episcopal church In Darlen, petitioned Judge John W. Banks In superior court today for alimony of 126 a week. Mr. Dumbell waa absent, but he op posed the allowance through counsel. Judge Banks reserved decision. After 8S years of married life, rais ing five children, Mra. Dumbell early this year Instituted a divorce action alleging Intolerable cruelty. A short timo later Mr. Dumbell went to Yucatan, obtained a divorce and remarried.
