Barron Speaks on "What Ails
New England"

National Association of Cotton Man
ufacturers here last rrisht. .
Speaking on "What Ails New Kng
lanJ," Barron made answer in three
parts:
"First: Orphanitls, the disease
which Kills great corporations, des
troys initiative and limits growth
and expansion. We are all endeav
oring to pass property on to the
widow and the orphan. We really
pass it on a trusteeship fur them
where conservation must take the
piece of creation.
"Second: New Kn-rland ha? fruit
ed and the n st. of the country has
grown up, so tli.it New England's
relative importance is diminished
as it should be.
"Third: Our uneconomic and un
bound educational system."
Harron declared New v England's
present educational system public,
private and collegiate was archaic
and chaotic. Modern education,
he said, had not k pt pace with the
progress in science, social progress,
business progress and iinancial pro
g ress.
"New England is handicapped by
her educational systems," he said.
"We are not the equal of old Eng
land in the common school training,
or the three R's. Note the differ
ence in handwriting between the
letters you receive from England
and those you receive from the
States. The hamiu riting of our
school graduates is slovenly: their
inatht-matics crude and thoughtless."

and of the world has gone ahead of
the New England system of educa
tion, and that our univirsities have
deflected the thoughts of youth away
from business and the maintenance
of the business and fortmn s that
New England has inherited."
Coordination of the educational
school and college with the educa
tion of business was the remedy,
Harron believed.
"The aim of education should be
not only truth, but the. service of
truth. In the passing age of theol
ogy the emphasis was on truth. In
the new age and the new theology
the emphasis will be on service.'

HUNTED AS KILLER

artist, who, drink-crazed and in a

: yesterday by clubbing them over

i bodies to pieces with a huge knife.
Moity is wanted for killing his
jwife, Mrs. There Alfano Moity.

the mother of three. The bodies
were found in trunks, face down
with the si. vered heads, arms and

jtop of the torsos. With the body of
i his wife, the slayer left his weapon,
ja knife, two feet long and two
inches wide, used in hacking sugar
'cane stalks. The bod.ii s were, found
i by two insurance agents called to
I the scene by the negro scrub wom
an, who found traces of blood.
Joseph Moity surrendered to po
lice yesterday afternoon and ex
pressed the belief that his brother
had killed the women through jeal
ousy. Joseph declared both he and
his brother had been having diffi
culties with their wives because of
attentions they accepted from other
men. Joseph said he took his chil
dren and left his wife Tuesday
after a quarrel. Henry stayed on,
hoping for a change, Joseph said.
Frank Kimmel, whose name was
found pencilled on a wall in Mrs.
Theresa Moity's room, was arrested
and is being held for questioning.
He admitted being intimate with
the woman, police said.
Coolidge Hears Ohio
Will Vote for Him
Washington, Oct. 28 OP) After a
visit to the White House yesterday,
Representative Kearns, republican,
Ohio, said that he had told Presi
dent Coolidge that the Buckeye
state would support him should he
become the republican nominee In
192S. Otherwise, he believed Ohio
looked favorably upon Charles
Evans Hughes, although this opin
ion he explained, was formulated be
fore the recent statement by Sena
tor Willis of that state, intimating
that he might become a candidate
for the nomination.
