action of the senate committee on military
affairs in providing for the removal of
Geronimo and his tribe of Indi ins from
Florida to Fort Sill. Ati appropriation of
$15,000 is made for the purchase of agri
cultural supplies for these Indians, and
the matter gone into with great detail
Flynn will make a fight, but as the ques
tion will bo practically decided by the

KINGFISHER COUNTY" SEAT.
GUTIIIUE, July 11. The supreme court
has appointed a commissioner to take evi
dence in the Kingfisher county seat case.
The county officers are in what wa3 origi
nally North Kingfisher, while the county
sean was locited in Lisbon. The two
places afterward consolidated, and the of
fices wero placed on the Kingfisher sido of
the street. A maudamui was issued to
compel the county commissioners tn pro
vide a place tor the offices on tho Liibon
bide, and the matter comes before the su-
pre mo court on appeal.

ceedings against J. II. Arnold aud J. C.
Taylor, lawyers of Calebville, and J. T.

phase. Taylor aud Goodman are in jail
under sentence of District Judge Good

them, aud the latter declined to obey.

were comparatively limited today, le than

first receipts by rail since July 2, the effect
was reaesunng. Today tweuty-ouecars of
cattle were shipped and five cars of bogs.
Prices were much weaker today. The
sharp decliues yesterday at western points
and the prospect of increasing receipts
irom now on gave prices an unmistakably
downward tendency. Buyers held off for
concessions and the sales reported wvre
at lower figures than have heen current for
some days past.
Quotations ar nominal at $1 o0(5f5 30 for
cattle; Sj.25(g3.7o for hogs, and iJW4.50 for
sheep.
OMAHA, July 11. Catth Receipt, 1,700;
the market is simplv glutted. Although
the receipts were light today there were
5,000 head held over from yesterday and
today not a sale in cattle was made. With
so many cattle on baud the feeling is
naturally weaker and prices are liable to
orop a notch or two. Some cattlemen
talked of reloading and shipping their
stock back nome.

I called upon the general passenger
Egent of one of the big railroad lines
running- into the citj, says a writer in
the Buffalo Enquirer, and was ushered
into his private office. He was enraged
in conversation with a gentleman
when I entered, and after a few min
utes of abrupt questioning took a small
book from his desk and began writing.
An expression of intense delight crept
over the visitor's face as his eye fol
lowed the agent's pen, and I imme
diately surmised that lie was about to
receive a pass. By this time two other
persons came in, presumably on tho
same mission. They sat down in tha
opposite side of the office, and realizing
tho situation cast wistful glances at tho
fortunato man. Tho agent continued
his writing and asked the man. where
he wanted to go.
'Make it New York city this time,"
responded the man, who had evidently
deadheaded before.
A few finishing touches were applie-1,
and the pass was handed over to him.

The Mexican "punchers" all use tha
"ring bit," and it is a fearful contriv
ance. Their saddle-trees are very
short, and as straight and quite as
shapeless as a "saw-buck pack-saddle."
The horn is as big as a dinner
plate, and taken altogether it is in
ferior to the California tree. It is very
hard on horses' backs, and not at all
comfortable for a rider who is not ac
customed to it-
They all use hemp ropes which are
imported from some of the southern
states of the republic, and carry a
lariat of hair which they make them
selves. They work for from eight to
twelve dollars a month in Mexican
coin, and live on the most simple
diet imaginable. They are mostly
peoned, or in hopeless debt to their
patrons, who go after any man who de
serts the range and bring him back by
force. A "puncher" buys nothing but
his gorgeous buckskin clothes and hi
big silver-mounted straw hat. his spurs,
his riata and his cincha rings. He
makes his teguas, or buckskin boots,
his heavy leggings, his saddle, and the
patron furnishes his arms. On the
round-up, which lasts about half of the
year, he is furnished beef, and also
kiils gam?. The balance of the year
he is kept in an outlj'ing camp to turn
stock back on the rang. These camps
are often the most simple things, con
sisting of a pack containing his "grub,"
his saddle and serape. all lying under
a tree, which does duty as a house.

More than once we had practical ex
perience of sandstorms. On the first
occasion mv tent was blown over upon
me as I slept, and I was left crawling
about under the flapping canvas, try
ing to find my hoes. When I had
emerged I found this new kind of hail
storm rather trying to the expoed
parts, and I rather prided myself on
my success in re-erecting my house un
aided. The other tents held, and their
occupants did not know of my mishap,
but every other upright thing was cast
down, and a nnmberof loose properties
went off into the desert. They were

day ou the stock exchange aud although
there were periods of depre-ston. taken as
a whole, the market wa in good toue and
11 very general advance in prices whs the
result of the day's trading. Occasional
bear raids were made iu certain stocks,
notably Chicago Gas, but Sugar and St.
Paul writ also attacked without sending
their ptices below the opening. Xews
from the various strike ceuters became im
proved iu tenor and as speculative opera
tions are for the present mainly governed
by ttie labor situaUo 1. tbe trading cnined

j in the railway camp. The failure ot the
general striKe ordered by ura'id .vaster
Workman Sovereign was a lactor in the
stock market and was to some extent re
garded as the beginuunr of the end of the
railroad strike.
Sugar, which furnished more than a
third of the total sales, was strong at the
opening and in such good demand us to
cause the shorts to cover with a celerity
tbat eut the stock speeding upward at a
rapid gait, an advance of 3 per cent having
been recorded before noon. At the higher
figures there was some realizing aud a re
action of 1 per cent took place iu the alter
noon, but on new purclmsts, come ot
which were made on ashiutou orders, a
higher level. 00, was readied, being a
gaiu of 12-3, the closing sale being at a
figure oniy i below the best of the day
and 2; above the closing price of yester

which were partially recorded, the specu
lation being decidedly firm ac the close,
with prices mostly higher than the last
figures of vest ei day. Pullman made the
greatest gaiu, 5 per cent, on purchases of
a00 shares.
The additional ?550,000 Western Union
stock listed 011 the exchange was issued
for the purchase of the American Kapid
Telegraph company, which been operated
by the Western union on a lease, but
which was recently bought uuder foreclo
sure. The bond market was firm during tho
morning, but was easier iu the afternoon,
closing rather heavy. The principal

feature in the market. Many more buyers
were in the market who con teuted them
selves with looking after goods instead of
purchasing, but with transportation fully

ferred. DupliCHte orders for silks have
come in. Staple cottons have moved
