roved to be an entire fabrication, but Sheriff

Last Saturday night a raid was mado upon sev
eral houses Mr. Bailey's Chinese quarters at
Wailuku, nnd ,alxut twenty persons, mostly
Chinese, were taken to jail. Only a few of that
number were held over fur trial. Ibl. hat been
an opium den for some time, causing no little in
convenience to Mr. Bailey.
At a meeting of the Trustees of the Eatt Hani
Female Seminary at Makawao, it was decided to
add to tho buildings in order lo accommodate tho
increased number of scholars. This school bat
never had such an attendance as at present. It it
now over-crowded. Girls are coming here from
every part of the kingdom. Ah this institution la
in such a delightful iot, both at to climate and
location, thero is no reason why it should not In
come a great centre of education in this country.

Hawaiian Government will bu naked for 1,U0. At
the natives are lo reap tbu benefit it might bo
better to aak tho Government for two-thirds In
