Our now City Hall is beginning to look
grand; it will bo ono of tuo best buildings
in America when finished. A great num
ber of new b'lilditigs havo been erected in
this city within tho yenr past. Ileal estate
is about the ame no excitoment about it.
It was thought with so many coutineutal
roads reaching for California that tho peo
ple were going to havo tome relief from
tho oppressive rates by competition, but
that delusive hope hnit beeu destroyed, for
wo hear, as Dennis Ketrtiey used to say,
they bar all "pooled their issues," or iti
other word gouo into a combination to
keep up rates. It takes railway corpora
tions to hold four aces ou the public.
