We estimate the whole produce of the islands for the last season nt Soo tons, which, with the s)iup and molasses, is valued al $120,000. Hach successive! ear reduces the mimhcr of Hawaiian laWcrs and whether this diminution can be profitably supplied by the imputation nf coolies, i-j still problemati cal. The present ciop of the Koloa plantation on Kauai, owned, by Dr. H. W. Its sjrup and molasses I estimate at $10,000 more, which showsatot.il nf $46,000.' The whole expenses of the plantation-per annum do not exceed, I nm told, $15,000. Comment is unnecessary, "The l.lhue plantation, owned by Henry A. IViice & Co., only ten miles distance' from that of Koloa, has been less favored. Owing to causes whiili no human agency could avert, the large crop anticip.iteil has proved an almost entile failure. A jear ago last December, the prospects nt I.iluie were cheering in the highest degree, and we were sure that we should liar v est a crop this season uf nt least 400 tons. The suit never shown on finer fields of cane. In January atoim came, accompanied with terrible thunder ami lightning, nml blasted our smiling fields ns with the bie.ilh of hie. After the storm pa-ed, the cane fields giew brown, lotted and died, and 400 acres that should hiv n brought us nt least $50,000, lianlly pro duced one-sixth urt nf that sum. At Cist we thought that it might Ix; the work of an inseit, but the closest examination show it I that we were mistaken, and wc canasciilie it to noth ing but some great conviiUIon In the alnios pheie. In other words, our thcoiy is, that it was the effect of the lightning, which Hashed fearfully ilming the whole storm. "Since our last meeting, we have Imported through llic kindness of Captain lMwards, of the ship (large l'iithiitlir, some new seed cane direct from Tahiti, which will doubtless prnve a valuable acquisition to our planters."
