DE OUT; BETTER Week after next, or some time be fore the end of this month, the 1917 directory of Honolulu, Oahu, and all other islands in the territory, will be distributed to subscribers, according to Manager R. W. Robinson of the Polk-Husted Directory Company's local office. Robinson calls attention to a new method of listing names in the forth coming directory, which he thinks will prove a convenience to Honolulans and residents of other islands in locat ing names quickly. AH names that have an apostrophe In them, like O'Brien, or begin with Mc or Mac, will not be listed separ ately, as in the 1916 directory, but will be run In strictly alphabetical order, something. like this: M Mabb, Prank Macedonia Hotel MacBrtde, Albert McBride James O Oberg, Charles O'Brien, Michael 1 Odell, Wn. ... ... O'Donnell, Maurice Oldenburg, George Standardizing Name Arrangement . 'The new method which we are adopting this year for such names," says Manager Robinson, "Is one which the Directory Journal has been advo cating. The new system is one which baa been -adopted by all standard Works of reference, such as well known dictionaries, Webster's, Funk L Wagnall'a, the Century "and many others. :the Encyclopedia Britannica, the U. S. Postal Guide, and In fact nearly all works of reference except lag directories. Directory publishers of the United States are, now working to secure a standardized arrangement of alphabetization, and we 'are co operating with them by Issuing the 1917. directory of Hawaii under the new' system." New Mainland Directories. Here Robinson calls attention to the re ceipt by his offlee of a number of new ' m7 curectones oi mainiana Which Promises to Mark a New the lives ot thousands or persons might bye saved who now die every year from pneumonia, grippe, consumption, kidney, liver, heart trou ble, etc. The real and true cause which, started their disease wss nothing more nor less than a weakened condition brought on by a lack of iron in the blood. "Not long ago a man came to me who was nearly half a century old and asked me to give him a preliminary exa agnation for life in surance. I was astonished to find him with a blood pressure of a boy of twenty and as full of vigor, vim and vitality .as a young man ; In fact, a young man be really was. notwith standing his age. The secret, he said, was tak ing iron 'uiated Iron had filled him with re newed life. At thirty he waa In bad health; at forty-all be was care worn and nearly all In. Now at fifty a miracle of vitality and his face beaming with, the buoyancy of roufc. Iron Is absolutely necessary to enable your blood to change food Into living tissue. Without tt, no matter how much or what you eat, your food merely passes through 'you without doing you aay good. Tou don't get the strength out of It, and as a consequence you become week, pala and sickly 'looking, Just like a plant try ing ta grow in a soil deficient in Iron. If yea are sot strong or weu. you owe It to your self to make the following test : See bow long you ean work or how far you can walk without becoming tired. Next take two five-grain tab lets of ordinary nuxated iron three times per day after meals for two weeks. Then test your strength again aad see how much you have gained. I have seen dozens of nervous, run down people who were ailing all the while double their strength and endurance and en tirely rid themselves of sit symptoms of dys pepsia, liver and other troubles in from ten to fourteen days' time simply by taking iron In the proper form. And this, after tbey had In some cases been doctoring for months with out obtaining any benefit. But don't take the eM forms t reduced iron. CABINET DEBATES ON FOOD LEGISLATION (Associated Prass by V. &. Nt1 Communi. cation Srn:) WASHINGTON, D. C , June 13 President Wilson and his cabinet at the meeting yesterday considered at length the delay in the passage of food legislation and ways and means to expedite the passage of a satisfac tory measure to bring about an agree ment between house and senate upon the points on which they are close to gether and to bring them together upon the points where they are more widely separated. The points of difference include the fixing of minimum prices and permis sion to use grain in the manufacture of alcoholic liquors. The president will probably call In the leaders of the two houses of con gress to confer with him in an ef fort to hasten this legislation. 'ALL NEW FOOD FISH INDORSED BY U. S. ARE NOW POPULAR By Associated Prass) SEATTLE, Wash Before the Uni ted States bureau of fisheries placed the stamp of its approval on the dog fish as human food and renamed it grayfish; an agreement was made with the Pudget Sound canners that they would wholesale the fish at a price that would enable It to be retailed at 10, cents a can, which is the price that was formerly the standard for the cheaper grades of salmon. Kippered grayfish, however, soon rose to 15 cents a pound. Biack cod, formerly a neglected fish, became popular immediately upon Its Indorsement by the United States bureau of fisheries under the new name of sablefish, and doubled In price. Walemeat first of fered for sale here at 9 cents a pound. with . the indorsement of the bureau of fisheries jumped to 15- cents in less than a month, and wale steaks now cost (10 ' cents a portion in Seattlo restaurants. All the new food fish Indorsed by the government experts, on both casts, have become popular, and still other sea foods are to be brought forward to reduce the high cost, of living. Attempts made at the same time to introduce horsefish, which -the government does not in dorse, have failed. The Massachusetts house of repre sentatives unanimously rejected reso lutions tailing upon President Wilson and CongTess to urge the British gov ernment to grant the people of Ireland "the right of home rule and royal self government" Era in Medical Science. The iron demanded by Mother Nature for the red coloring matter in the blood of her chil dren Is, alas t not that kind of Iron. You must take Iron in a form that can be easily absorbed and assimilated to do you any good, other wise it may prove worse than useless. Many an athlete and prizefighter has won the day simply because he knew the secret of great strength and endurance and filled his blood with iron before he went Into the affray; while many another has gone down in inglori ous defeat simply for the lack of iron." Dr. Schuyler C. Jacques, another New York physician, said: "I have never before given out any medical Information or adrice for pub lication, aa I ordinarily do not believe in it. But in the case of Nuxated Iron I feel I would be remiss In my duty not to mention It. I have taken tt myself and given it to my pa tients with most surprising snd satisfactory re sults. And those who wish quickly to In crease their strength, power and endurance, will find it a most remarkable and wonderfully effective remedy.'1 NOTE Nuxated Iron, which is prescribed and recommended above by physicians In such a great variety of cases, is not a patent medi cine nor secret remedy, but one which is well knowa to druggists and whose iron constituents are , widely prescribed by eminent physlcisns both in Europe and America. Unlike the older inorganic iron products. It Is essily assimilated, does not injure the teeth, make them black, nor upset the stomach ; on the contrary, it Is a most potent remedy In nearly all forms of in digestion as well as for nervous, run-down con ditions. The manufacturers have such great confidence in nuxated Iron, that they offer to forfeit Slo.eo to any charitable Institution if they cannot take any man or woman under ca who lack Iron, and increase their strength 200 per cent or over in four weeks' time, provided tbey have no serious organic trouble They also offer to refund your money If it does not at least double your strength and endurance In ten days' time. It is dispensed ia this city by all good druggista. OA! BOARD ACCEPTS Although not satisfactory in every respect, the Sea View Improvement district was accepted by the board of supervisors Tuesday evening and the contractor, L. M. Whltehouse, ordered paid. In a letter to the board explaining the circumstances, George Collins. city and county engineer, said: "The soil ef the Sea View improve ment is of clay and adobe character which gives no support when wet. The weakness of the asphalt macadam in spots under the heavy trucks loaded for the Manoa improvement is due to the fact that large quantities of wa ter found its way through the newly constructed unsealed pavement our- ing the heavy storms of March before an oil seal coat could be applied. The water softened the subgrade and ren dered It incapable of supporting "heavy loads. "The concrete pavement on Rocky Hill street has cracked longitudinally due to the upward thrust apparently caused by the swelling of . the sub grade. "The .cracks, iiowever, do not re duce the efficiency of the pavement to any appreciable extent and they have been treated to a bituminous filler." Charles Arnold, chairman of the road committee, said the contractor baa lived up to tbe specifications of tbe contract and had, In fact, done more work than tbe contract called for.
