Fathers and mothers should cooperate in saving- for
their children and teaching them tcf save. The larger
planning and economies will fall to the lot of the father.
He may be carrying out some such plan as that adopted
by a merchant who deposited a dollar, in the savings
bank on the birth of each 'child. On the second birth
day . he deposited two dollars, on the third birthday
three dollars, and so on until the child reached the
age of 21. On that anniversary there was $306.16 to
the child's credit in the bank.
The father, did not miss this sum, yet it piled up
a considerable amount. Are you trying some such
plan as this for your children? .

Since the filing in San Francisco
on November 14 of a motion for. dis
miscal of all the 17 goverhment suits
against the Honolulu Consolidated Oil
Co., which motion is being heard in
Los Angeles before Judge Bean", hope
is held out that this latest move ot
the government attorneys will bring
the litigation to an end and result in
a distribution among the stockholders
of the several million dollars held in
escrow In New York to protect the
Standard Oil company on purchase.
made in the past of oil taken from
the lands now in litigation.
After many, months of solicitation
the department of justice obtained the
consent of Secretary Lansing of the
interior department to set aside the
clearing list order in these claim
matters and suits were finally filed iu
March last. Now conies a motion to
dismiss and it is assumed Jhat the
government attorneys have decided
that they hn.d reached a point beyond
which they cannot pass. It has been
suggested that they have discovered
that substantial foundation for suits
is lacking.
The stock of the Honolulu Consoli
dated Oil company was today quoted
at $4. Resides the litigation there
"have teen several other contributing
factors responsible for present low
figures among them the unionizing
of labor in the oil fields, general labor
unrest, the possibility of the govern
ment fixing the price of oil, and the
excess profits tax on oil earnings.
GROUND BROKEN FOR
NEW KANE0HE SCHOOL
Supervisor Ben Hollinger, chair
man of the schools, public parks and
playgrounds committee, turned tin
first sod Tuesday afternoon ' on the
grounds where the new school, at
Kaneohe is to be shortly erected. An
appropriation for $1200, the estimated
cost ot the new school house, will be
sought.
Following the turning of the sod,
Supervisor Hollinger, . Superintendent
of Parks A. K. Vierra, Sheriff Charle3
Rose and Johnny Cummings were en
tertained at dinner cn the grounds.
The novelty of the feast was the fact
that it was. cooked and served by the
prisoners Who are now busy leveling
the ground where the new school is
to 1)e erected.
When completed the building will
have ample accommodation to house
the 252 children now attending school
in the present dilapidated shacks
that pass as school houses.
John S. Aisthodpe, president of the
First .National Bank and Trust Co.,
and former president of the Illinois
State Bankers association, shot and
killed himself at'Tiis home at Cairo,
111. He had been in poor health for
several months.
STOMACH.! MEDICINES
ARE DANGEROUS
DOCTORS NOW ADVISE MAGNESIA
Just how dangerous, it is to indis
criminately dose the stomach with
drugs and medicines is often not real
ized until too late. It seems so sim
l'.e to swallow a dose of some speciaj
mixture or take tablets of soda, pep
sin, bismuth, etc, after meals, and the
folly of this drugging is not apparent
until, perhaps years afterward, when
it is found that gastric ulcers have al
most eaten their way through the
stomach walls. Regrets are then un
availing; it is in the early stages
vhen indigestion, dyspepsia, heart
turn, flatulence, etc, indicates exces
sive acidity of the stomach and fer
mentation of food con tens that pre
caution should be taken. Drugs and
medicines .are unsuitable and often
dangerous they have little or no in
fluence upon the harmful acid, and
that is why doctors are discarding
them and advising sufferers from .n
digestion and stomach tr uble to get
rid of lhe dangerous acid and keep
the food contents blar 1 and sweet by
taking a little pure bisurated magne
sia instead. Bisurated Magnesia is an
absolutely pure anti acid which can be
readily obtained from any drug store.
It is absolutely harmless, is practical
ly tasteless and a teaspoonful taken in
a little warm or cold water after meals,
will usually be found quite sufficient
to instantly neutralize excessive acid
ity of the stomach and prevent all
possibility of the food fermenting.
